Shiny New Museum for George Lucas

January 11, 2017

The creator of the vast “Star Wars” franchise plans to open a Museum of Narrative Art in Los Angeles — for $1 billion. The museum’s board of directors announced the decision in a statement Tuesday, as The New York Times and other outlets reported.

Lucas spent years making plans to open a museum for his collection of fine and popular art. Eric Garcetti, Los Angeles mayor, has welcomed the museum’s impending construction in the city.

The museum is expected to bring thousands of construction and museum jobs to the city. It will house Lucas's collection of some 10,000 paintings, as well as book and magazine illustrations he assembled over decades.
