Two explosions ripped through a demonstration in Kabul, Afghanistan, on Saturday, killing at least 80 people and wounding 231, according to the Interior Ministry.

The bombs exploded as members of Afghanistan’s mostly Shi’ite Hazara minority were holding a peaceful demonstration, The Huffington Post reported.

ISIS claimed credit for the suicide attack — one of the deadliest attacks in Afghanistan since 2001.

Afghanistan’s ambassador to the United States sent his prayers to the innocent civilians killed and injured in the attack.

The Hazara were demonstrating over the route of a planned multimillion dollar power line when a witness says he “heard a bang and then everyone was escaping and yelling,” said Sabira Jan. “There was no one to help.”

Graphic television footage from the area showed many dead bodies lying on a bloodied road, The Huffington Post reported.

“Two fighters from Islamic State detonated explosive belts at a gathering of Shi’ites in the city of Kabul in Afghanistan,” said a brief statement on the group’s Amaq news agency.

The Taliban — an enemy of the Islamic State — denied any involvement and said on its website that this attack was “a plot to ignite civil war,” according to The Huffington Post.
