The late-night show format is dead. Instead of laughs and interesting content that reach across all cultural spectrums, we now are hit with one-sided political monologues from Jimmy Kimmel, constant anti-Trump humor (or attempts at it) from Stephen Colbert — and now Jimmy Fallon’s efforts to top them all. He’s allowed his program to bow down to Hillary Clinton as if she were a dictator.

On the Wednesday edition of “The Tonight Show,” Fallon interviewed Clinton about her recent book, “What Happened.” He also invited onstage singer Miley Cyrus, along with women from his writing staff, to read thank-you letters to Clinton.

It was a grueling and taxing six minutes of television that felt misplaced on the late-night show format.

“You’ve inspired so many people around the country, including many right here on our staff at ‘The Tonight Show,’ and I know that our female writers in particular are big fans of yours, and they wanted to thank you in person,” Fallon said to Clinton as he opened the segment.

Cyrus actually fought back tears while reading her letter to Clinton. “Thank you, Hillary, for being a constant beacon of strength, hope and determination for me and millions of other young women,” she said.

Imagine for a moment if a late-night program had done this same thing with Donald Trump. The show would immediately be attacked by the mainstream media as statist propaganda. Yet for some reason, doing it with Clinton is totally normal and oddly “acceptable.”

What? Who wants to watch such a thing? Where’s the funny in people reading thank you letters to a corrupt politician desperately trying to remain relevant?

It’s sad Fallon would let his show stoop so low that he was practically running a pro-Hillary Clinton campaign ad for six minutes, almost a year after the presidential election.

It was such a blatantly partisan moment in television and so lacking in sense and laughs, it would be difficult to understand why many — especially conservatives — would keep tuning into “The Tonight Show.”
