Looks like Uber isn’t content to have Ashton Kutcher sing its praises.

The company that is revolutionizing the way we get around town is ramping up its lobbying muscle in the wake of new government crackdowns. The battle is particularly intense in California, where Uber’s lobbying efforts overshadow those from mega-companies like Wal-Mart and Wells Fargo, according to the Los Angeles Times.

The company’s growth has caught the attention of major presidential contenders.

Uber’s fight isn’t regional, though. Kutcher’s comments came in response to New York City Mayor Bill DeBlasio’s attempt to stop Uber’s expansion in the Big Apple. The company’s growth also has caught the attention of major presidential contenders.

Hillary Clinton has spoken out against the “Gig Economy,” a term that applies to company models like the one Uber employees. Clinton claims companies like Uber have a “polarizing” effect on the culture while hurting blue-collar jobs.

On the other side of the aisle, Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida, running to represent the GOP’s presidential aspirations in 2016, publicly thanked the company this week for giving Americans more transportation options.

Uber, meanwhile, faces competition from not one but two companies offering similar services — Lyft and Sidecar.
