Tom Brady has quite the accomplished football career, and he’s showing no signs of slowing down, even at 40 years old.

While many would expect the quarterback for the Patriots to be hanging up his helmet after this season, he said in a recent interview he plans on sticking around a lot longer — that is, if his wife allows it.

Brady told CBS This Morning he’d like to play into his mid-40s, but it’s not always something he and his wife, model Gisele Bundchen, can agree on.

“I think we go back and forth,” he told the TV program. “She’ll always say to me, ‘Well, 10 years ago, you told me it was only going to be 10 years. And now it’s 10 years, and now you’re saying another, you know, five years.'”

Many football players would not dream of playing the full contact game into their mid-40s, but Brady has walked away from games more unscathed than most. He even has a new book, “The TB12 Method: How to Achieve a Lifetime of Sustained Peak Performance,” which helps to explain how he keeps so focused, strong and athletic as he enters the middle of his life.

While many NFL careers don’t make it a decade, Brady is still going strong — this is his 18th season. He credits his lack of injuries on his focus on pliability — the lengthening and softening of muscles — in his workouts and in keeping in shape and strong, but not going for dense muscles.

“I’ve seen really strong, physically fit guys that, you know, would be the definition of health, that are the ones that are injured the most,” he said.

He added, “You know, everyone could do this. My parents can do it. My sisters can do it. I mean, I did pliability this morning on my son, whose leg was sore — he’s eight years old.”

Pliability comes from a focus on band work at the gym, and it’s something Brady learned from his longtime trainer, business partner, and “body engineer,” Alex Guerrero.

Brady’s book breaks down more of his workout philosophy, his diet and how he keeps mentally focused.
