There are few musicians as openly patriotic as country star Toby Keith.

From salutes to the military like “American Soldier” to the post-9/11 rallying cry “Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue,” his music is often a reflection of his own love of country.

Though Keith mostly keeps his politics to himself, he’s open about his support for America’s military — and he’s visited our soldiers overseas multiple times.

With such a patriotic reputation, and as more and more celebrities jump into the political field, some people have wondered whether this was something Keith would ever consider doing.

In a recent interview with Fox News, Keith was asked how he would feel about a political future.

“I’ve been asked a lot about running for office, but there’s a couple reasons [I won’t],” said the 56-year-old artist.

Though he admitted America was the “greatest country in the world,” he said the political world just doesn’t call to him.

“I can’t handle all the BS and the liars and the stuff that goes on the political world, and [reason two] it’s a hell of a pay cut … I’m not taking it. I don’t want that job.”

That lack of motivation to jump into a political race does not, however, affect Keith’s patriotism or love of country.

“It’s the greatest country in the world [the United States], and I’ve been to all the countries, the majority of them, and most of this planet lives like a third world,” Keith said. “I’m blessed for my birthright to have happened here in the United States. Where else are we going to go? So you better love this [country]. That’s what a patriotic person does, loves his country — and I love this country.”
