Barack and Michelle Obama were beloved by scores of Hollywood liberal elites during the eight years the couple were in the White House.

A-list celebrities were in and out of the White House, and the pair frequently jetted off to California to raise exorbitant amounts of money for political campaigns.

Many accused the former president of being more of a celebrity than a commander-in-chief, as he seemed more recognized for talking about the music he listened to on his iPod while visiting “The View” than for real-world issues affecting everyday Americans across the nation.

It seems the Obamas are now fully embracing their celebrity status. The two have officially signed a deal to produce film and television content for Netflix, the popular streaming service.

The multiyear deal comes through their freshly established company, Higher Ground Productions. They will reportedly produce a variety of content, which could include scripted material along with documentaries.

“One of the simple joys of our time in public service was getting to meet so many fascinating people from all walks of life, and to help them share their experiences with a wider audience,” said Barack Obama in a public announcement. “That’s why Michelle and I are so excited to partner with Netflix — we hope to cultivate and curate the talented, inspiring, creative voices who are able to promote greater empathy and understanding between peoples, and help them share their stories with the entire world.”

“Barack and I have always believed in the power of storytelling to inspire us, to make us think differently about the world around us, and to help us open our minds and hearts to others,” Michelle Obama added. “Netflix’s unparalleled service is a natural fit for the kinds of stories we want to share, and we look forward to starting this exciting new partnership.”

The Obamas’ jump into content creation is no real surprise.

After all, they always seemed to behave like celebrities while in office — so this is just an extension of that.
