The esteemed Meryl Streep, who has played Margaret Thatcher and Julia Child among many other standout characters in her storied career, has added another real-life role to her resume.

Streep’s mockery of the presumptive Republican presidential nominee is being heralded as Oscar-worthy by the (liberal) media.

The actress painted her face an orange tint, put on a fat suit with a long red tie, and took the stage at the Public Theater’s 2016 Gala fundraiser Monday night in drag. She came out as a clownish version of Donald Trump.

Streep apparently surprised all involved with the production by keeping the costume somewhat of a secret. She performed a parody of Cole Porter’s “Brush Up Your Shakespeare” from the musical “Kiss Me, Kate,” along with actress Christine Baranski.

“We could do a deal — you’ll let me know — why it is all the women say no?” she sang, strolling the stage using Trump-style gestures.

Baranski sang in reply, “Brush up your Shakespeare and the women you will wow … Just declaim a few lines from ‘Othello,’ and they’ll think you’re a hell of a fella.”

The song, traditionally a duet for men, offers advice for picking up women. Some lyrics were altered, but some were not, noted The New York Times — lines such as: “If she says your behavior is heinous, kick her right in the Coriolanus!”

The New York crowd, which included the former Mayor Michael Bloomberg, United Nations Ambassador Samantha Power, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Bette Midler, loved it, noted The Times.

Streep and Baranski were doing their thing just as Hillary Clinton was clinching the Democratic nomination for president. Streep is a long-time Hillary supporter. And Hillary is a long-time Streep fan. As Hillary told The Guardian in 2014 when asked who she would like to play her in a movie, “It would be Meryl Streep, of course!”

Interestingly, Baranski was said to be doing a parody of Hillary, but she obviously chose not to wear a costume that would play up the pantsuits and expensive jackets, nor did she sport a Hillary-esque wig.

Streep’s mockery of the presumptive Republican presidential nominee is being heralded as Oscar-worthy by the (liberal) media. “Stellar” is how BuzzFeed described it, while The Huffington Post crooned, “Can Meryl Streep just be president?”

Trump has yet to weigh in on her act.
