The tributes to late actor Bill Paxton on Sunday were about as unique as his career. After Paxton’s death was announced, hundreds of storm chasers from around the world saluted the star of “Twister” in their own special way.

Using the Spotters Network, storm chasers and weather enthusiasts made out Bill Paxton’s initials across “Tornado Alley,” located in Kansas and Oklahoma. The area is where tornadoes most frequently occur in the United States.

Paxton was well-regarded among the weather community: He starred in the 1996 hit film, “Twister.”

Paxton’s passing was reported through a statement released by a family representative on Sunday. It partly read, “A loving husband and father, Bill began his career in Hollywood working on films in the art department and went on to have an illustrious career spanning four decades as a beloved and prolific actor and filmmaker. Bill’s passion for the arts was felt by all who knew him, and his warmth and tireless energy were undeniable.”

The cause of the actor’s death was reportedly complications from surgery.

The rest of Hollywood found itself in mourning as well. In an email to Vanity Fair, director James Cameron said of Paxton’s passing and their relationship, “It was a friendship of laughter, adventure, love of cinema, and mutual respect. Bill wrote beautiful heartfelt and thoughtful letters, an anachronism in this age of digital shorthand. He took good care of his relationships with people, always caring and present for others. He was a good man, a great actor, and a creative dynamo.”

Paxton starred in “The Terminator,” “Aliens,” “True Lies,” and “Titanic” for Cameron. Other fellow artists to pay tribute to Bill Paxton included actor James Woods and Paxton’s “Twister” co-star, Helen Hunt.
