‘SNL’ Writer Bullies Donald Trump’s Son

“Saturday Night Live” writer Katie Rich targeted President Donald Trump’s 10-year-old son, Barron, in a tweet sent out on the day of the inauguration.

Rich, who writes for the “SNL Weekend Update,” wrote: “Barron will be this country’s first homeschool shooter.”

The tweet reportedly remained up for three full hours before it was finally deleted.

It should go without saying that had a conservative in the media or entertainment business said such things about Obama’s daughters, that person would have lost his or her job and faced serious consequences. Generally, presidential offspring are deemed off limits — but loudmouthed Trump critics are rewriting the rules of common decency in their attempt to insult the new administration.

Ostensibly, the “joke” here is that by being homeschooled, any rampage from the first son would claim the lives of those in his home — which is actually a threat on the president’s life and should result in a Secret Service visit.

Catch is, Barron is not even homeschooled. He attends the Columbia Grammar and Preparatory School in New York City.

This also isn’t the first time young Barron has been the subject of bullying from a public figure. Rosie O’Donnell targeted him a few months back, under the guise of “caring.” O’Donnell reposted a video dissecting Barron Trump’s behavior and claiming the boy was autistic. She defended her actions and even used them as a platform to criticize Trump. O’Donnell later publicly apologized to first lady Melania Trump.

Interestingly, CNN’s Jake Tapper tweeted in response to Rich’s original tweet: “That it even need be said is ridiculous, but mocking the 10-year-old child of a politician you loathe is odious, immoral, & self-defeating.”

“If you look way, way, up, you can almost see the low road,” Toronto Star columnist Lorrie Goldstein tweeted.

Yes, even Canadians are appalled — and isn’t that allegedly where every liberal celebrity was going to move to, by the way?

Rich has since made her Twitter profile “private,” meaning you have to follow her in order to view her tweets.

Interestingly, “SNL” once came under fire and public scrutiny for a “Wayne’s World” sketch, of all things, wherein the stoner TV host predicted aloud that a then school-aged Chelsea Clinton would be a “total babe” one day.

“I have thought an awful lot about blowing up the White House,” the singer said in her curse-riddled speech.

Whether Rich will remain gainfully employed by “SNL” remains to be seen. But if the sketch comedy series wants any real credibility, it would at least acknowledge Rich’s absurd behavior, perhaps even in an upcoming segment — after firing her, of course.

If Rich’s comments weren’t enough to convince you that human decency is crumbling among Trump’s critics, then take a look at singer Madonna’s speech from the Washington Women’s March on Saturday. “I have thought an awful lot about blowing up the White House,” she said in her curse-riddled speech.

If anyone had such such a thing while Barack Obama was in the White House, that person would immediately be deemed dangerous and a traitor. Again, there would be consequences and perhaps even an investigation from the Secret Service.

Making an argument against Donald Trump and his policies is one thing. Bullying a 10-year-old boy and joking about political assassination and domestic terrorism are entirely different and shameful acts — and should be recognized as such.
