‘SNL’ Fat-Shames Sarah Huckabee, and Feminists Go Silent

The show mocks a woman's weight, her speech, and of course her politics — how low can these people go?

The latest episode of “Saturday Night Live” took on its usual targets: Sean Spicer, the White House press secretary (played by Melissa McCarthy), and President Donald Trump, played by Alec Baldwin. But the show also had Sarah Huckabee Sanders in its sights and used questionable means to mock the principal deputy White House press secretary.

In a sketch that showed McCarthy’s Spicer retaking his podium at a press briefing, Huckabee is shown as clumsy and dumb, with a particularly over-the-top Southern accent. She’s also seen midway through the sketch, coming from backstage munching on an apple.

Her part in the sketch is small, but it's clear what the messaging is: Huckabee is fat and dumb. Both her weight and her accent were the targets of "humor." Even CNN's Chris Cuomo felt the depiction of Huckabee went too far.

"I will say this — you guys were mean about Huckabee Sanders," Cuomo said on Monday's "New Day." "You were fat-shaming her. You were talking about how she looks and what she wears. I thought that it was mean, not funny."

He added, "They had her eating. I thought it was in poor taste. I really did, but that's me." Cuomo's has so far been a lone dissenting voice among a group of people who seem not to care about taste when it comes to criticizing conservatives.

Sarah Huckabee's father, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, also spoke out against the portrayal of his daughter. “I thought it was a little bit silly, sexist, misogynist, but my daughter is certainly capable of handling a whole lot worse than that. The fact is it does not take away in any way [from] who she really is … She is a great wife and an absolutely wonderful mother to three beautiful pre-school children and she is a generous and thoughtful person," Huckabee said on Fox Business Network's "Varney & Co." on Tuesday.

Had conservatives ever said or even suggested similar things about people in the Obama administration — the mainstream media would be drawing lines in the sand and screaming political correctness.

And speaking of political correctness, "SNL" was also the second major left-leaning comedy show to use the implication that the president is secretly gay to insult the man. First there was late-night host Stephen Colbert insulting the president in a monologue in which he told a vulgar joke about Trump performing a sexual act with Vladimir Putin — and then "SNL" attempted to top that over the weekend.

On "SNL," McCarthy's Spicer goes to meet with Baldwin's Trump and the two end up making out. So now the Left is using gay acts to insult people? Where's GLAAD? Where are the groups that scream and shout when a show or public figure does something to insult gay people? Where are the feminists when it comes to the way Huckabee is portrayed?
