Shocking New Audio Captures Weinstein’s Despicable Behavior

After an explosive report from The New York Times detailing his aggressive and inappropriate behavior toward women over decades led to Harvey Weinstein’s firing from the company he co-founded, he likely didn’t think his week could get any worse.

It just did.

A new report from The New Yorker contains audio of Weinstein from a 2015 New York Police Department sting operation. The audio captures an exchange between Weinstein and Ambra Battilana Gutierrez, a now 24-year-old model.

Weinstein, then a 63-year-old man, acts very aggressively toward Gutierrez and seems to be trying to bully and shame her into staying in his hotel room — and possibly even joining him in the shower.

“You must come here now,” Weinstein tells the young woman. “Please. Now you’re embarrassing me.”

Gutierrez refuses his advances and says, “No, I don’t want to. Yesterday was kind of aggressive for me.”

“Sit with me. Please sit there,” he said.

She is likely referring to the fact that Weinstein reportedly grabbed her breast and tried to slip his hand under her dress the day before.

“I swear I won’t do a thing. Just sit there. Sit with me. Please sit there,” says Weinstein. “Go to the bathroom. Listen to me.”

Gutierrez says she’s “uncomfortable” and Weinstein then responds, “It’s five minutes. Don’t ruin your friendship with me for five minutes.”

The chilling audio gives far more weight to the allegations against Weinstein from women who claim to have had similar experiences with the man.

The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office told The New Yorker in a statement: “This case was taken seriously from the outset, with a thorough investigation conducted by our Sex Crimes Unit. After analyzing the available evidence, including multiple interviews with both parties, a criminal charge is not supported.”

The report in The New Yorker comes from Ronan Farrow, the son of actress Mia Farrow and director Woody Allen, and is the result of a 10-month investigation. It also includes the accounts of other women who allege that Weinstein inappropriately touched them or forced them into sexual acts, including actress Asia Argento; these women also charged he used his influence in Hollywood to make things more difficult for them if they refused his advances.

A Weinstein representative told the publication that the producer denies any allegations of “non-consensual sex.”

To make matters worse, a new story from The New York Times details the experiences of more well-known actresses with Weinstein. Gwyneth Paltrow, Angelina Jolie, and others all admit to bad exchanges with Weinstein when they were young.

“I was a kid, I was signed up, I was petrified,” said Paltrow after revealing that the producer had called her to a hotel suite for business purposes when she was 22 years old — and then put his hand on her and tried to pressure her into sex. When she told her boyfriend at the time, Brad Pitt, and he confronted Weinstein, the producer then warned her not to tell anyone else.

Jolie and others shared similar stories about Weinstein.

All of the new revelations were finally enough for former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton to release a statement about her friend and political donor, Weinstein.

Clinton, through a spokesperson, said she was “shocked” and “appalled” by Weinstein’s behavior toward women. She added that those coming forward have “courage” and that Weinstein’s actions should not be tolerated.

It was a short statement and it took her five days to release it, so it has little impact at this point. Former President Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama also released a statement about Weinstein. The former president had received donations from Weinstein, who’d visited him in the White House.

The Obamas said Weinstein needed to be “held accountable” and condemned.

Filmmakers who have long-standing relationships with Weinstein, such as Quentin Tarantino, have continued to stay publicly quiet about the matter.

These new accounts and this devastating audio revelation make it all the more shameful that so many who have benefited from a relationship with Weinstein remain silent.
