It’s getting harder and harder for families to find something on TV they can enjoy together.

Dropping the cynicism and darker elements of today’s programming, Hallmark’s Aurora Teagarden movies have carved a niche for themselves as fun, clever mysteries that parents don’t need to worry about in terms of keeping their kids’ eyes shielded.

Leading the film franchise is Candace Cameron Bure as Aurora Teagarden, a woman who starts off as a librarian who belongs to the Real Murders Club, a group of enthusiasts who try to solve baffling crimes.

Also highlighting the now five films is “Taxi” star Marilu Henner — the accomplished actress plays Teagarden’s mother. She says the sixth installment in the mystery series, “A Bundle of Trouble,” airing this Sunday on the Hallmark Channel, is the best one yet. And they’re definitely not done.

“This is number six, and we’re doing at least six more,” she told LifeZette. The films are based on the book series by Charlaine Harris, author of the popular “True Blood” series.

“They’re clever. Charlaine Harris, who created ‘True Blood,’ writes them, and they’re very clever. I’m always turning the pages trying to figure out who the killer is, and I’m never right,” said Henner.

Despite the focus on murder mysteries, there’s plenty of positivity and fun onscreen in these films; it’s all about brains over brawn and good conquering evil. The upbeat nature likely comes from the feelings behind the scenes. “We have a little repertoire company with six regulars in the show,” said Henner, 65. “We have a blast.”

Acting is not Henner’s only passion today. Despite being a prolific actress, as her early days on “Taxi” attest, she has also become an outspoken activist for caregivers of cancer patients.

She dealt with the unfortunate realities of cancer when her husband was diagnosed with bladder cancer shortly into their relationship. They’ve been together for over a decade now and wrote a book about their experience, called “Changing Normal.”

Henner now takes time to help end the stigma surrounding bladder cancer; she tries to share practical advice for caregivers and people going through the same situation she and her husband endured.

The advocacy, however, has not taken energy away from her passion to perform, as the six Teagarden mysteries clearly show. “I think I just have passion for a lot of things,” she said.

Also known for her amazing memory, which she has displayed on television shows such as “The Celebrity Apprentice,” Henner can remember every single day of her life in great detail. She’s among an exceptionally tiny group of people who can do this — and it’s a skill that comes in handy both as a performer and as a researcher.

“I think I just have passion for a lot of things,” she said.

“People always go, ‘Is it a blessing or is it a curse?’ And I always say, ‘It’s always a blessing for me.’ The only person it’s a curse for is my husband, which is probably why I’m on my third and final. And he says, ‘What man ever wins an argument against his wife anyway? At least I have an excuse,'” joked Henner.

She said it helps in remembering things most people would unfortunately forget. Her detailed memory is so good that “my siblings will call me and say, ‘Do a week from our childhood.'” She says in those moments, she understands what a “gift” the unique ability really is.

“A Bundle of Trouble: An Aurora Teagarden Mystery” airs May 21 at 9 p.m. ET on the Hallmark Channel.
