Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel is not happy about the new Graham-Cassidy health care bill. It does not, according to Kimmel, pass the “Jimmy Kimmel test.”

After an emotional monologue on his program back in May in which he explained that his infant son was born with a congenital heart defect and needed open-heart surgery, Kimmel was made into a sort of champion of Obamacare — and the coverage of pre-existing conditions in health insurance.

After that monologue, Kimmel had Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.), a co-sponsor of the bill, on his program. The senator said any new health care bill would make sure children have health care covered during the first year of their life.

“It seemed like he was being honest,” Kimmel said afterward of Cassidy. “He got a lot of credit and attention for coming off like a rare, reasonable voice in the Republican Party when it came to health care, for coming up with something he called — I didn’t name it this — he named it this, the ‘Jimmy Kimmel Test,'” said Kimmel to his audience.

He said Sen. Cassidy “lied to my face” and “wasn’t being honest” when they first spoke. Kimmel also said he is “politicizing my son’s health care problems because I have to.”

Kimmel doubled down on his criticism of the health care bill and Sen. Cassidy on Wednesday night.

“I don’t want to turn this into a Kanye-and-Taylor-Swift-type situation, but when Sen. Cassidy was on my show in May, he told me that he believed that every American family regardless of income should be able to get quality health care. And I believed he was sincere. Sadly, the bill he unveiled last week with Sen. Lindsey Graham indicates that he was not sincere. It is, by many accounts, the worst health care bill yet.”

He added bluntly, “Could it be, Sen. Cassidy, that the problem is that I do understand and you got caught with your ‘GOPenis’ out. Is that possible?”

Sen. Cassidy also released a statement in response to Kimmel’s original criticism.

Predictably, the liberal Hollywood masses herded around Kimmel and used him as their champion against the bill from Republicans.

Kimmel’s original monologue also received retweets from people like Michael Moore and Rosie O’Donnell.

Some prominent conservatives actually reached out to Kimmel through social media, too, though it’s unlikely he’ll take the time to talk to them.

But one he may want to speak to is commentator and author Ben Shapiro — who has a daughter who had the same surgery Kimmel’s child had. He is offering to discuss the downfalls of Obamacare with the late-night host.

It doesn’t seem likely that monologues on health care are what viewers are looking for in their late-night programming — yet it’s likely Kimmel will keep getting political as long as fellow anti-Trump celebrities cheer him and stay by his side. If he is going to continue this path of political bashing, it would be nice to see him take it seriously by reaching out to people who actually disagree with him, such as Shapiro, so he can use his platform for more than just giving his one viewpoint.
