While many prominent people have used Hurricane Harvey as a platform to continue being political and divisive (so what else is new?),  others have stepped up in the effort to support affected parts of Texas by spreading awareness, prayers, and even money.

Actor Kevin Hart, who has made headlines recently for refusing to directly comment on political matters, posted a video to Instagram saying he was donating $25,000 to relief efforts in Texas. The comedian urged other celebrities to do the same.

“I’m challenging a lot of my celebrity friends to follow my lead,” the actor said in the video. He tagged Beyonce, Dwayne Johnson, Chris Rock, Jerry Seinfeld, Jay-Z, Dave Chappelle, Justin Timberlake, and Steve Harvey in his post.

Musician Chris Young also pledged $100,000 to relief efforts, and Lady Gaga revealed she had donated to the cause as well, though she did not say how much.

The band Lady Antebellum had to cancel a show because of the hurricane, and the group decided to donate the merchandise proceeds from another show to help in recovery and rescue efforts.

While many have not been able to let go of politics or their anti-President Trump hysteria, these celebrities and others have displayed a rare unity in a time of crisis.

In a culture that seems more and more consumed by polarization, it’s a sign of hope to see artists banding together and using their positions for good while so many innocent Americans are still in harm’s way.
