If some outspoken liberal celebrities are to be believed, they’ll be spending election night packing to leave the country in case Donald Trump wins (although a case could be made that some celebs, such as Keith Olbermann or Michael Moore, are secretly hoping Trump will win so they can revive their faltering careers).

Hillary Clinton will spend election night in a public gala at New York’s Javits Center. Rumor has it that she chose the venue for its glass ceiling, symbolic of her attempt to break the “highest, hardest” glass ceiling in the world.

“If Trump wins, we’ll start looking at real estate in Sydney.”

Trump, on the other hand, will host a more modest, invitation-only election night party in a ballroom at New York’s Hilton Midtown, just a handful of blocks away from Javits Center on the other side of Times Square — where thousands traditionally gather to await election results.

Critics are sneering at Trump for not hosting a more extravagant party in one of his own hotels, and for inviting a mere 3,000 people to the “surprisingly drab” Hilton, as Quartz.com put it. That’s a really odd way to describe a legendary hotel that has hosted every U.S. president for the last 50 years.

A number of celebrities vowed to leave the country back in 2004 if George W. Bush won a second term. Alas — they’re still here. Yet there’s an awful lot of anxiety in Hollywood about the possibility of a Trump presidency. Elections are often tense — but this one is off the charts. So is the hyperbole.

“I won’t recognize our country anymore if it wants a scumbag white nationalist to be its president,” “Lost City of Z” director James Gray told The Hollywood Reporter, holding nothing back, clearly. “You can quote me on that: I hate that guy.”

Comedy legend Carl Reiner, apparently more confident of a Trump loss, says he has prepared a Trump piñata for his grandchildren to pummel.

Who do you think would win the Presidency?

Ali Wentworth and her husband, George Stephanopoulos, plan to head to Australia if the election doesn’t go their way: “If Trump wins, we’ll start looking at real estate in Sydney,” she told THR. “No crime, no guns.”

They join the chorus of promises to depart the U.S. if Hillary loses: Director Paul Haggis and “How I Met Your Mother” co-creator Carter Bays say they’ll head back to their home country of Canada, while “Breaking Bad” star Aaron Paul and other American celebrities threaten to repatriate there as well.

And director Neil Burger apparently plans to leave not only the United States, but also the living world if Hillary loses. He has joked that his election night preparations include “a handful of pills and a glass of water.”

Then there are the rare conservative celebrities who have come out in favor of Trump. There are stalwarts such as Ted Nugent, Jon Voight, and James Woods, of course; but other more surprising endorsements have come from Dennis Rodman and Mike Tyson — and former reality TV star Tila Tequila.

Tequila has lambasted liberals for ignoring Trump’s policies and judging him on irrelevant trivialities. “Don’t be sheep and follow what the media says,” she urged her followers on YouTube. “Most celebrities who dislike Trump do it for personal issues instead of his political positions.” She went on to discuss the actual merits of Trump’s stances on issues such as immigration or the Tran-Pacific Partnership.

A few progressives in the entertainment industry are taking the election in stride, without any hyperbole about the history of civilization being at stake. Leslie Odom Jr. told THR that regardless of the outcome, he plans to “find a way to move on and heal, and come together as a country, as we’ve always done.”

Stephen Colbert, on the other hand, will be spending election night poking fun at the whole thing with a live Showtime special, entitled “Stephen Colbert’s Live Election Night Democracy’s Series Finale: Who’s Going to Clean Up This Sh**?”
