2.) LeBron loses in the finals for the fifth time, despite his excellent performance. Without knowing which team won the series, you could look at LeBron James’ stats and claim he was the most valuable player in the series. He averaged 33 points per game, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists — the first player to ever average a triple double in the finals. That said, his team lost every game but one.

This is a familiar storyline for LeBron. Most of his five finals losses cannot be blamed on him. In 2007, a 22-year-old LeBron took his team of nobodies to the finals only to be overmatched by Tim Duncan and the Spurs. In 2014, the Spurs again could not be touched, with the old combination of Duncan, Parker, and head coach Gregg Popovich complemented by the rising stardom of Kawhi Leonard. In 2015, both Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving were injured, and LeBron alone could not defeat the Warriors. This year, Kevin Durant and Steph Curry, among other all-stars, were simply too good for anyone to beat.

Make no mistake, however: LeBron James is the best player on the planet. It was just too difficult to defeat a team that had the second-best and third-best players.
