“The Birds II: Land’s End” (1994). You’re really asking for verbal and written beatings from critics and film fans if you choose to sequelize Alfred Hitchcock. The director’s films stand today as masterstrokes in the thriller genre. There’s no need for more of any Hitchcock (save maybe “Psycho,” which was turned into the popular “Bates Motel”) — the original films stand so well on their own.

One of his most popular movies, 1963’s “The Birds,” was given a sequel anyway in 1994.

This Showtime television movie has essentially the same plot as the original, but with different characters and a whole lot less entertainment value.

Very surprisingly, Tippi Hedren, the famous actress from the original and other Hitchcock projects, appears in a small role here, though it’s a different character than her previous one.

“It’s absolutely horrible. It embarrasses me horribly,” she said in a 2002 interview, according to Chiller Theater Magazine.

The director had similar feelings. Rick Rosenthal had his name officially removed from the movie and changed to the once-popular moniker of directors wanting to remain anonymous, Alan Smithee.
