Five of Hollywood’s Most Patriotic Celebrities

Honoring Old Glory. Enjoying the fireworks. Hosting picnics or cookouts for friends and family with burgers, hot dogs, and apple pie. These are just a few of the ways that millions of Americans — including the rich and famous — will be celebrating America’s Independence Day.

While we don’t think of the rich and famous as being a pro-America bunch most of the time, there are a few among this group who show their patriotism unapologetically through their work and their charitable efforts.

Here’s a look at five of Hollywood’s most refreshingly patriotic celebrities — artists we can be sure will be making the most of America’s birthday on the Fourth of July and beyond.

1.) Gary Sinise. Most famous for his role in the movie “Forrest Gump” (1994) as Lieutenant Dan Taylor, Sinise has been supporting members of the military and veteran organizations in countless ways through the Gary Sinise Foundation, which he founded in 2011, and his music with the Lt. Dan Band.

The foundation helps build homes for wounded vets, while Sinise puts on free shows for military servicemen and women and their families with his band — he plays bass — and raises money for military causes.

In 2008, Sinise was awarded the Presidential Citizens Medal, the second highest civilian honor given to American citizens for exceptional service to their nation.

Sinise told CBS News about his motivation to work so tirelessly to support troops: "There's a lot of causes out there. There's a lot of people that need help, but our freedom is fought for and defended by the people that choose military service as their career."

He also says on the website of the foundation: "I've traveled to visit our troops in Iraq, Afghanistan and around the world, and have also performed with my band in Kuwait, Afghanistan, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, United Kingdom, Japan, Okinawa, Korea, Singapore, Diego Garcia, Guantanamo Bay, Alaska, and throughout the U.S., in an effort to help boost the morale of our troops and military families. Through my travels I've seen firsthand our service members' extraordinary dedication." He also says, "While our programs and projects have certainly made a difference in many lives, there's much more work to be done." (go to page 2 to continue reading)
