3.) Trace Adkins. The well-known country star gives back to the military community by visiting wounded warriors at hospitals and meeting privately with the families of fallen military members before shows.

Adkins has been on 10 USO tours. His new song, “Still a Soldier,” talks of the issues many veterans face when they leave the military, and includes lyrics like, “He’s still a soldier / His blood runs red, white, and blue / He put away his gun and boots / But he still believes / The American Dream.”

Adkins told People magazine that his work with the USO and the Wounded Warrior Project has been both humbling and a privilege, calling military audiences the most “appreciative audience you’ll ever play for … You’ll walk away from there thinking that they gave you more than you gave them.”

Of the military itself, he says, “If you have the opportunity to associate with, and hang out with heroes, you should take advantage of that, and do that, because maybe it’ll rub off on you.” (go to page 4 to continue reading)[lz_pagination]
