Musician Charlie Daniels had some serious words for career politicians in an op-ed for CNSNews this week.

His message? The jig is up.

“Politics is no longer public service. It is a jaded, high-stakes game, played by power-drunk career politicians who have only two priorities in their lives, and the prosperity and security of the United States is not one of them,” wrote Daniels. He argued that if President Donald Trump proves successful — the corruption in Washington, D.C., will be over.

He continued, “Reelection and power have taken the place of patriotism and honor in an atmosphere where betrayal is acceptable and common sense is as scarce as unicorns.”

Despite being 80 years old, Daniels is as active and vocal as ever. He often tweets about the state of American politics — and has a memoir that will publish in October.

In his op-ed, Daniels said Trump is not part of the “club” of corrupt politicians like Hillary Clinton. Daniels wrote, “I’ll let you in on a little secret: Donald Trump is not a member of their club, either, and while I’m very well aware that his juvenile name-calling and acerbic tweets do not serve him well sometimes, the main problem the establishment has with Donald Trump is not Russia.”

Daniels asserted what many American voters think right now: that the crusade by people like Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) about Russian meddling in the presidential election is merely a distraction.

“Do you think Chuck Schumer actually thinks that Trump colluded with Russia, had some secret deal that would benefit him to the detriment of America? I’d be willing to bet my Ram pickup truck against a lug nut that if you hooked Schumer up to a lie detector and asked him that question, he’d fail the test,” wrote Daniels.

The “Devil Went Down to Georgia” singer also called out politicians on such major issues as the national debt and failing Middle East policies. They certainly aren’t the words or stances one expects to hear from an entertainer, as other vocal celebs like Michael Moore, Rosie O’Donnell, and plenty of others spend their days fear-mongering about Russia and insulting voters who didn’t vote for Hillary Clinton in 2016.

But just like his music, Daniels marches to the beat of his own drum — and he certainly doesn’t hold back when calling out the career politicians many Americans have grown tired of long ago. He also sees hope for the future.

He said if President Trump can accomplish his goals, then “the days of the career politician are over.”

He added, “If that day ever comes, people will demand term limits, and empires will fall as senators, congressmen, lobbyists and bureaucrats find themselves on a level playing field with the people they lied to and took advantage of for so long.”
