Parts of Flyer 1 have been aboard a few NASA missions, apparently. The first time was when portions of the original fabric and wood traveled to the surface of the moon aboard the Apollo 11 lunar module in 1969. The next time was when different pieces of the flyer were taken by astronaut Michael Smith and brought aboard the space shuttle Challenger on mission STS-51-L, which was destroyed on liftoff — but fear not, they were recovered.
