With Iowa behind us and New Hampshire finally here, some presidential candidates are feeling very good about their positions — while others not so lucky already have dropped out of the race.

Winning the first two contests can be a good predictor of who eventually will win their party’s nomination. But before they get ahead of themselves and start thinking they have the race in the bag, the top-tier candidates should take a moment to reflect on the past.

Previous elections have seen upsets and surprises, and some candidates who lost New Hampshire went on to win their party’s nomination.

So while former Democrat Hillary Clinton and Republican Texas Sen. Ted Cruz celebrate their Iowa wins — and before Vermont Democrat Sen. Bernie Sanders and Republican mogul Donald Trump celebrate their projected New Hampshire wins — we take a look back at the candidates who lost in New Hampshire, but went on to win the nomination, and for some, the White House.
