One day after President Obama trashed American exceptionalism in his defense of globalism at the United Nations, Donald Trump offered a competing vision for a sovereign America.

Speaking to supporters during a rally held at the Stranahan Theater in Toledo, Ohio, Wednesday, the Republican presidential nominee criticized the globalist and elitist agendas promoted by Hillary Clinton, Obama, and the “corrupt political Establishment.” Promising to replace the failed status quo with a government that serves the interests of U.S. citizens, Trump vowed to fight for the American people and bring their voice back to Washington, D.C.

“The arrogance of Washington, D.C. will soon come face to face with the righteous verdict of the American voter and worker.”

“I am for America, but specifically I am for America First. It’s gonna be America First. Hasn’t happened in a long time. Together we will rebuild this country beyond our greatest dreams,” Trump told the crowd gathered in Toledo. “This is a movement, and we’re taking our country back for the people. We’re taking it back. It’s been a long time.”

Trump’s words cast a stark contrast with the globalist sentiments Obama expressed the day before at the General Assembly. Urging the U.S. to “to press forward with a better model of cooperation and integration,” Obama urged the U.S. to “accept constraints” and refrain from retreating “into a world sharply divided” that holds to “age-old lines of nation and tribe and race and religion.”

“Sometimes I’m criticized in my own country for professing a belief in international norms and multilateral institutions,” Obama said. “But I am convinced that in the long run, giving up some freedom of action — not giving up our ability to protect ourselves or pursue our core interests, but binding ourselves to international rules over the long term — enhances our security.”

Trump tied Clinton to that same globalist mentality Wednesday. Condemning Clinton for her deep entrenchment within the United States’ own political Establishment, Trump championed his own stance as a political outsider.

“I will be your greatest champion in the White House. Hillary Clinton, on the other hand, only fights to protect the corrupt political Establishment,” Trump said. “Whatever they want, she will get for them. Whatever they ask for, she will deliver. Whatever they say, their wish will be granted. Unless you show up and vote on Nov. 8 — I’ll tell you why — nothing will change if you vote for her.”

Trump also expressed his delight with how his unconventional rise to the Republican nomination has thrown the elite into chaos and consternation.

“The Washington insiders, they’re panicking. They are very concerned. They’re looking at what’s going on with the polls, and they’re saying, ‘What’s happening? This wasn’t supposed to happen. It wasn’t supposed to happen in the primaries, and this wasn’t supposed to happen.’ But it’s happening, and I think we’re gonna bring it all the way,” Trump said. “We are going to replace our failed and corrupt Establishment with a new government that serves you, your family, the country.”

Saying that his campaign was all about “breaking up the special interest monopoly in Washington, D.C.,” Trump promised to champion the interests of the average citizen.

“We’re trying to disrupt the collusion between the wealthy donors, the large corporations, and the media executives. They’re all part of the same political Establishments,” Trump said. “They all support the same ideology of globalism that makes them rich while shipping your jobs, your factories, and your wealth all the way out to other countries. I am not running to be president of the world. I’m running to be president of the United States, and that’s what we’re going to take care of. We’re gonna take care of our country.”

Trump called Clinton “the last defender standing on this failed, failed, badly failed status quo.” Trump said that she is “running to defend decades of failure in every area of political life.”

“Her campaign message is, ‘Things must never change.’ That’s what she’s thinking. My campaign message is, ‘Things have to change and they have to change right now,'” Trump concluded. “The arrogance of Washington, D.C. will soon come face to face with the righteous verdict of the American voter and worker. On Nov. 8, we are going to show the whole world that America is back — bigger and better and stronger than ever before.”
