President Donald Trump announced Saturday that he will not attend the annual White House Correspondents Association dinner in April at the culmination of another contentious week between the administration and what he calls the “dishonest media.”

Trump’s decision to snub the glitzy dinner comes after media fury over White House press secretary Sean Spicer excluding several outlets from a press gaggle Friday. Press organizations including CNN, Politico, The New York Times, and the Los Angeles Times weren’t welcomed to the informal briefing with reporters. Both CNN and The New York Times, in particular, have incurred Trump’s ire for coverage Trump considers “fake news” or simply “biased.”

“I will not be attending the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner this year. Please wish everyone well and have a great evening!”

CNN already indicated Friday that it might not send representatives to the annual dinner, though no definitive decision was announced.

The president decided to skip the dinner the day after he unleashed his latest criticism against certain press outlets peddling “fake news” during his speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference.

“I want you all to know that we are fighting the fake news. It’s fake. Phony. Fake,” Trump said. “A few days ago, I called the fake news the enemy of the people, and they are. They are the enemy of the people. Because they have no sources. They just make them up when there are none.”

Trump even took issue with the media’s coverage of his war against the “fake news.”

“They dropped off the word ‘fake,’ and all of a sudden the story becomes the media is the enemy. They take the word ‘fake’ out,” Trump added. “I’m not against the media. I’m not against the press. I don’t mind bad stories if I deserve them.”
