President Trump made a strong commitment to defend Israel from any and all aggression during remarks Tuesday that continued a break from the more tepid pro-Israel stance of the previous administration.

“I make this promise to you: My administration will always stand with Israel,” Trump said during an address at the Israel Museum in Jerusalem. “Iran’s leaders routinely call for Israel’s destruction. Not with Donald J. Trump,” he said.

“No international body should question the contribution Israel makes to the region and the world.”

“The U.S. is firmly committed to keep Iran from developing a nuclear weapon and halting their support of terrorist and militias,” said Trump. “So we are telling you right now, that Iran will not have nuclear weapons,” Trump said.

Trump also took direct shot at the United Nations, which in recent years has become a prominent platform for anti-Israeli voices.

“Despite these challenges Israel is thriving as a sovereign nation, and no international body should question the contribution Israel makes to the region and the world,” Trump said.

In addition to pledging enduring support for the Jewish state, President Trump also doubled down on his promise to pursue peace, saying that he was “personally committed” to achieving it.

“There are those who present a false choice,” noted Trump. “They say that we must choose between supporting Israel and supporting Arab and Muslim nations in the region,” he said. “[However,] diverse nations can unite around the goal of protecting human life.”

“My administration is committed to pursuing such a coalition,” said Trump. “I had a meeting this morning with President Abbas and can tell you that the Palestinians are ready to reach for peace. I know you’ve heard it before, I am telling you, that’s what I do, that they are ready to reach for peace,” Trump said.

“Making peace will not be easy. But with determination, compromise, and the belief that peace is possible, Israelis and Palestinians can make a deal.”

The president made it clear, as he did on Monday, that the days of the Obama administration are over, and that in the United States, Israel once again has a friend and ally.

“America’s security partnership with Israel is stronger than ever,” said Trump. “Under my administration, you see the difference” … a “big, big, beautiful difference.”
