President Donald Trump called for an end to the intense partisan strife gripping Washington and begged the Senate Democrats “to stop their tactics of delay and obstruction and destruction” so both parties can learn to “find a new loyalty rooted deeply in our country.” He made his comments during a rally Saturday in Melbourne, Florida.

During his address at the Orlando Melbourne International Airport, the president struck a unifying tone. After first lady Melania Trump opened with the Lord’s Prayer and introduced her husband to the hundreds gathered there, the president beckoned all “patriotic” Americans to join him in working for the good of the country and its people.

“So we have to tell the Democrats, ’cause they’re doing the wrong thing for the American people, to stop their tactics of delay and obstruction and destruction. We’ve gotta get on with it.”

“I’m here because I want to be among my friends and among the people,” Trump said. “This was a truly great movement and I want to be here with you. And I will always be with you, I promise you that. I want to be in a room filled with hard-working American patriots who love their country, who salute their flag, and who pray for a better future.”

Although Trump promoted unity and patriotism during his speech, he noted that the “dishonest media” and Senate Democrats seem hell-bent on misconstruing and obstructing every single action he takes toward “making America great again.”

“I also want to speak to you without the filter of the fake news. The dishonest media, which has published one false story after another, with no sources … they just don’t want to report the truth. And they’ve been calling us wrong now for two years. They don’t get it,” Trump said. “They’ve become a big part of the problem. They are part of the corrupt system.”

Coming off a contentious press conference Thursday in which he lambasted the media’s biased coverage of him, Trump responded to liberal pundits’ claims that it was not particularly presidential of him to bash them so.

“Thomas Jefferson, Andrew Jackson and Abraham Lincoln and many of our greatest presidents fought with the media and called them out oftentimes on their lies,” Trump said. “When the media lies to the people, I will never, ever let them get away with it. I will do whatever I can that they don’t get away with it. They have their own agenda, and their agenda is not your agenda.”

After setting the record straight, Trump launched into a defense of the actions he’s already taken to fulfill his campaign promises as he assured the people that he is heeding their concerns.

“You want us to enforce our immigration laws and to defend our borders. You want fair trade deals and a level playing field — we don’t have a level playing field — because you understand that when American workers win, America as a country wins and wins big,” Trump said. “You want lower taxes, less regulation, millions of new jobs, and more products stamped with those beautiful, beautiful words, ‘Made in the USA.'”

“Senate Democrats should work with us to lower taxes and bring back our jobs, but the Democrats want to increase your taxes very, very substantially. We’re not gonna let that happen,” Trump added. “It’s also time for the Senate Democrats to take responsibility for Obamacare and to work with us to replace it with new reforms that reverse this nationwide health care tragedy.”

Responding to the Senate Democrats’ obstinate refusals to advance his Cabinet appointees and reluctance to fairly consider his Supreme Court nominee, as well as liberal activists’ stubborn insistence on blocking Trump at every step of the way, the president pleaded with the Democrats to put Americans’ interests and well-being first.

“So we have to tell the Democrats, ’cause they’re doing the wrong thing for the American people, to stop their tactics of delay and obstruction and destruction. We’ve gotta get on with it,” Trump said, adding that “we need members of both parties to join hands and work with us.”

In particular, the president defended his travel ban executive order that temporarily barred entry into the U.S. for travelers from seven terrorism-compromised countries. The executive order, which the Left stubbornly persists in dubbing a “Muslim ban,” has been blocked temporarily. But Trump promised that a revised order would be coming “over the next couple of days.”

“So we’ll be doing something over the next couple of days. We don’t give up. We never give up,” Trump said. “Here’s the bottom line: We’ve got to keep our country safe. You look at what’s happening. We’ve got to keep our country safe.”

And the president said there is absolutely no reason why the Democrats should obstinately refuse to work with him on securing Americans’ safety and working toward national prosperity.

“This is our legacy. It belongs to all of you and it belongs to every man, woman and child in our nation,” Trump said. “Now is the time to call upon these deep ties in the name of bold action. Let us move past the differences of party and find a new loyalty rooted deeply in our country. We’re all brothers and all sisters. We share one home, one destiny and one glorious American flag. We’re united together by history and by providence.”

“We will make American strong again, I promise,” Trump concluded. “We will make American proud again. We will make America safe again. And we will make American great again — greater than ever before.”
