In a speech in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Tuesday night, Donald Trump reminded African-Americans that the Democratic Party — and not law enforcement — is responsible for the economic devastation endemic in urban black communities.

“The Democratic Party has failed and betrayed the African-American community,” Trump said. “Democratic crime policies, education policies, and economic policies have produced only more crime, more broken homes, and more poverty.”

“The Democratic Party has failed and betrayed the African-American community.”

The evidence to back up Trump’s statement is everywhere. From Detroit, to Newark, to Atlanta, to St. Louis, to Chicago, to Milwaukee, American cities struggling with poverty and crime have one thing in common — years of Democratic Party rule.

“Let us look at the situation right here in Milwaukee, a city run by Democrats for decade after decade,” said Trump. “Last year, killings in this city increased by 69 percent, plus another 634 victims of non-fatal shootings. 18 to 29-year-olds accounted for nearly half of the homicide victims,” Trump said.

“The poverty rate here is nearly double the national average. Almost four in 10 African-American men in Milwaukee between the ages of 25 and 54 do not have a job. Nearly four in 10 single mother households are living in poverty. Fifty-five public schools in this city have been rated as failing to meet expectations, despite $10,000 in funding per pupil. There is only a 60-percent graduation rate, and it’s one of the worst public school systems in the country,” Trump continued.

Trump hammered Hillary Clinton and the Democratic Party for taking African-American voters for granted in election cycle after election cycle.

“We reject the bigotry of Hillary Clinton, which panders to and talks down to communities of color and sees them only as votes, not as individual human beings worthy of a better future,” Trump said, “She doesn’t care at all about the hurting people of this country, or the suffering she has caused them.”

The depressing reality faced by tens of thousands of African-Americans across the country is indeed almost entirely the result of liberal policies supported by the Democratic Party.

The gang violence that wreaks havoc on the black community is a direct result of widespread family breakdown within that community. The rate of children born out of wedlock in the black community is nearly 75 percent.

Of course, that family breakdown is in and of itself a result of ill-advised liberal welfare policies, which effectively paid dependent households more money if they were headed by a single parent.

But of course, if a black person from an American inner city is able to avoid being sucked into the life of crime and dependency for which his environment sets him up, and wishes to become a productive, honest member of his community, he will often find that there is no honest work available in his community.

This is the partially the result of toxic immigration policies first supported by the Democrats and toxic trade policies first supported by the Republicans which are now endorsed across party lines.

Good manufacturing jobs which were once abundant in cities like Detroit have been sent overseas. Go to any inner city neighborhood and the story is the same — young African-Americans just starting out in life sit around not working, while the entry-level service industry jobs they should be working are filled by middle-aged illegal immigrants.

The Democrats offer nothing to the black community save the continued promise of a bitter cycle of dependency, depravity, and violence. “The Democratic Party has taken the votes of African-Americans for granted. They’ve just assumed they’ll get your support and done nothing in return for it,” Trump said.

“It’s time to give the Democrats some competition for these votes, and it’s time to rebuild the inner cities of America – and to reject the failed leadership of a rigged political system.”
