As Americans are on high alert and in mourning after the deadliest terror attack since 9/11, Hillary Clinton is using the tragedy to bulk up the toughness of her image on terrorism — but her rhetoric masks her own coziness with the very actors she claims aren’t taking action.

“Crooked Hillary says we must call on Saudi Arabia and other countries to stop funding hate.”

In a speech on Monday, Clinton pushed for gun control, but also expressed her support for women and the LGBT community who suffer human rights abuses in the Middle East. Clinton also called on those foreign governments to stop funding extremist groups.

“For starters, it is long past time for the Saudis, the Qataris, and the Kuwaitis and others to stop their citizens from funding extremist organizations,” Clinton said. “And they should stop supporting radical schools and mosques around the world that have sent too many young people on a path toward extremism.”

It did not take long for GOP presumptive nominee Donald Trump to call out her hypocrisy. “Crooked Hillary says we must call on Saudi Arabia and other countries to stop funding hate. I am calling on her to immediately return the $25 million-plus she got from them for the Clinton Foundation,” Trump wrote in a Facebook post.

Trump later pressed the attack, saying on Twitter “Saudi Arabia and many of the countries that gave vast amounts of money to the Clinton Foundation want women as slaves and to kill gays. Hillary must return all money from such countries!”

Clinton has long defended the Foundation and its ethically questionable acceptance of donations from foreign governments, including while she served as secretary of state. Since 2001, the Foundation has hauled in more than $40 million from the United Arab Emirates, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Brunei, and Oman — the very nations Clinton blasted for allowing human rights abuses, especially against women and homosexuals.

As of 2016, the Southeast Asian nation of Brunei alone had donated nearly $5 million to the Clinton Foundation. The government of Brunei has been named as one of the world’s worst perpetrators of human rights violations. In 2016, the Sultan of Brunei legalized the stoning to death of same-sex couples and the allowance of marital rape if the bride is over the age of 13.

Saudi Arabia, by and large the largest foreign government donor to the Clinton Foundation, voted in favor of a Russian proposal to overturn the United Nations decision to extend staff benefits to same-sex couples in 2015. Saudi representatives said “these relationships are morally unacceptable,” in a statement at the time.

Even more alarming, the State Department has indicated the Saudi Arabian government may be directly involved in human trafficking.

The United Arab Emirates, Algeria, Qatar, and Oman were also cited in State Department reports for practicing human rights abuses and permitting violence against women.

Clinton’s Democratic opponent, Sen. Bernie Sanders, has recently gone after the Clinton Foundation and its shady dealings. Sanders told CNN’s Jake Tapper during an interview on “State of the Union” that he has a problem with Clinton and the donations received by the Clinton Foundation.

“Yes it is [a problem],” Sanders said. “You asked me about the Clinton Foundation. Do I have a problem when a sitting secretary of state and a foundation run by her husband collecting many millions of dollars from foreign governments, governments which are dictatorships? You don’t have a lot of civil liberties, democratic rights in Saudi Arabia. You don’t have a lot of respect there for divergent, opposition points of view, for gay rights, for women’s rights. Yeah — do I have a problem with that? Yeah, I do.”

Clinton’s decision to hammer those nations for their human rights abuses and weak actions to combat terror only gave Trump the opening to call out her ethically questionable coziness with those nations. Her faux outrage only served to highlight her own inaction to advocate for women and the LGBT community in Muslim countries, and to protect American lives from terror.
