Donald Trump declared that the “criminal conduct” of Hillary Clinton “threatens the foundations of democracy” in a defiant response echoing her recent attacks against him during a rally Tuesday in Sanford, Florida.

The GOP nominee came after Clinton for calling him a “direct threat to our democracy” after he said during the third presidential debate on Oct. 19 that he would “look” at the election results before conceding to Clinton, should she be declared the victor. After recounting an extensive list of the former secretary of state’s shady dealings and egregious “failures,” Trump insisted that the democratic threat came from Clinton.

“Real change begins with ridding Washington of corruption, of which there’s plenty, plenty going around.”

“The criminal conduct of Hillary Clinton threatens the foundations of democracy. I mean that,” Trump told his supporters. “Real change begins with ridding Washington of corruption, of which there’s plenty, plenty going around. And believe me folks — believe me — I’ve been saying it for a long time, the system — the whole system — is rigged.”

Following the third presidential debate, Clinton attacked Trump during one of her own rallies for the “threat” he posed in insisting that the election was “rigged” against him.

“He refused to say that he would accept the results of our election,” Clinton said. “Now, I have to admit, when we were both asked the questions, I assumed he would say what everybody else has always said, which is, ‘Hey, of course.’ You know, because to say you won’t respect the results of the election — that is a direct threat to our democracy.”

But Trump made the case that her tangible actions should be far more concerning — whether it be her use of a private email server, or Benghazi, or receiving a question for a primary debate in advance, or a slew of other scandals. Not to mention how uniformly the media has rallied around Clinton and covered for her while relishing every opportunity to lambast Trump.

“This is one of the great phonies of all time, and she shouldn’t be allowed to run for president with what she’s done, I’ll tell you right now,” Trump said. “The fact that the Washington Establishment has tried so hard to stop this movement is only more proof that our campaign represents the kind of change that only arrives once in a lifetime. This is once in a lifetime.”

Trump called attention to his plan to help curb the “corruption” in Washington and “drain the swamp” there. In order to hold public officials accountable to those who elected them in the first place, Trump said he “proposed a contract with the American voter that will give the government back to the people.”

“My contract begins with a plan to end the rampant government corruption and to put the special interests out of business. It’s all about special interests,” Trump said. “I want everyone in Washington to hear and to heed the words I’m about to say: If we win on Nov. 8, we are going to Washington, D.C., and we together are going to drain the swamp.”
