Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna Romney McDaniel warned fellow Republicans that voters “are going to hold us accountable” if “we do not keep the campaign promises that were made,” during an interview Wednesday on “The Laura Ingraham Show.”

McDaniel predicted many Americans would be frustrated by the news that a down payment to start construction of the border wall would be dropped from a must-pass spending bill in Congress this week. Noting that building the border wall was “front and center” in Trump’s 2016 campaign, the RNC chair insisted that “our voters are going to expect us to act on it.”

“And so, when you get to Washington, sometimes you forget what was said outside. And it’s important that we bring that back to Washington and let them hear what the voters expect of this government and this president.”

“I know that our voters are going to hold us accountable in 2018 if we do not keep the campaign promises that we made,” McDaniel said. “And so, when you get to Washington, sometimes you forget what was said outside. And it’s important that we bring that back to Washington and let them hear what the voters expect of this government and this president.”

LifeZette Editor-in-Chief Laura Ingraham referred to reports of GOP leaders “sitting behind closed doors” and laughing at the prospect of building the wall, to which McDaniel warned those lawmakers are “going to lose the trust of our base.”

“If we don’t keep our promises, our base is going to walk away and they’re going to feel like, ‘Hey, you said one thing on the campaign trail to get elected, and then you didn’t act on it,'” McDaniel said.

Aside from setbacks on the wall and the repeal of Obamacare, McDaniel did say she believes the GOP base is overall “very happy with the president” as his 100-day mark in office approaches.

“You’ve seen jobs coming back. You’ve seen our national security standing rise in this country,” McDaniel said. “I mean, action after action that the president talked about on the campaign trail he has enacted in just a hundred days.”

“We have to make good on our campaign promises, and the president has already hit the ground running on that,” McDaniel added.

The RNC chair even noted that those Republicans who sat “on the sidelines” and refused to support Trump in the 2016 election are beginning to support the president and the GOP agenda. McDaniel said skeptical Republicans were encouraged by the confirmation of Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch and by the administration’s quick action against excessive regulations.

“And they are saying, ‘You know what, we were wrong and he is doing good things,'” McDaniel said.

McDaniel also touted the record-breaking fundraising at the RNC.

In first quarter of Trump’s presidency the Republican National Committee doubled the cash intake of the Democratic National Committee in the first quarter of former President Barack Obama’s administration in 2009.

“We have $41 million dollars in cash on hand, 250,000 small donors that we’ve added since January,” McDaniel reported. “The president is popular, and the RNC is reaping money because of the action he is taking and voters are very pleased.”

Despite the successes, the RNC chair noted the fulfillment of Trump’s promise to “repeal and replace Obamacare” looms large and warned against GOP complacency.

“They’re hurting. People are hurting under Obamacare,” McDaniel said. “It is a catastrophe what is happening to the American people right now. And they’re looking for help and relief and our party is the only party that is even focusing on that. The Democrats have walked away. But we’re going to have to find that for them.”

“We have to put people above politics,” McDaniel said. “We cannot become complacent as a party. Complacency will be our worst enemy. We won everything, but the Democrats have awoken and they’re coming back, and we have to fight just as hard.”
