Rand Paul Assaulted by His Neighbor

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) suffered minor injuries after a neighbor allegedly attacked him on Friday while he was mowing his lawn at his home in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

Paul’s 59-year-old neighbor, Rene Boucher, “tackled him from behind, forcing him to the ground and causing pain,” the complaint warrant obtained by ABC News affiliate WBKO said. The warrant added that Paul suffered “small cuts to the nose and mouth area” and had difficulty breathing “due to a potential rib injury.”

When questioned about the attack, Boucher “admitted going onto Paul’s property and tackling” him intentionally.

"Sen. Paul was blindsided and the victim of an assault," Kelsey Cooper, Paul's spokeswoman, told The Hill in a statement. "The assailant was arrested, and it is now a matter for the police. Sen. Paul is fine."

Boucher was charged with one count of fourth-degree assault for causing a minor injury and is being held at the Warren County Detention Center on $5,000 bail. He is an anesthesiologist and pain specialist who applied for and received a patent in 2003 for his Therm-a-Vest product, created to relieve back pain.

If convicted, Boucher could spend up to one year in prison.

Paul's neighbor could also be slapped with additional charges, Warren County attorney Amy Milliken told the Bowling Green Daily News.
