In a brilliant bit of trolling, Russian President Vladimir Putin has offered James Comey political asylum in response to the fired FBI director’s potentially self-incriminating testimony in front of the Senate.

The controversial Russian leader made the offer — which is sure to rankle Democrats, the media, and deep-state actors alike — during his annual TV special, in which viewers call in and ask questions.

Putin said Comey’s disclosure that he asked a friend to leak the content of conversations Comey had with Trump puts him “in a vulnerable position,” according to a translation provided by The Independent. Putin remarked that Comey’s position is similar to Edward Snowden’s, adding half-jokingly that Russia could give Comey political asylum.

“He suddenly said that he has recorded his conversation with the president, and then via his friend gave this to the mass media,” said Putin. “Well, that sounds and looks really bizarre when the head of the special service records a conversation with the commander-in-chief then gives that [to] the mass media via a friend,” he said.

“What is the difference then between the FBI director and Mr. Snowden?” Putin continued. “Then he is not the head of a special service but a human-rights activist who protects a certain position. By the way, if he faces certain consequences after this and so on, we will be ready to provide him a political asylum in Russia,” said Putin. “He should know this.”

This isn’t the first time the Russian leader has had a bit of fun trolling the U.S. regarding the widespread Trump-Russia conspiracies with which the Democrats and their mainstream-media allies are completely obsessed.

In mid-May Putin offered to release recordings of President Trump’s conversation with Russian ambassador Sergei Lavrov following accusations in U.S. media that Trump had disclosed sensitive secrets to the diplomat.

“We can see that political schizophrenia is developing in the United States,” Putin said at the time. “I cannot otherwise explain the accusations of the president that he handed Lavrov some sort of secrets,” Putin continued.

“If the U.S. administration finds it possible, we are ready to provide a recording of the conversation between Lavrov and Trump to the U.S. Congress and Senate,” he said.
