A majority of Americans believe that President Donald Trump is “being effective,” “getting things done,” “changing business as usual,” and “being firm and decisive” as president, according to the results of an NBC/Wall Street Journal poll released Sunday.

The number of voters who believed Trump was “being firm and decisive” outweighed those who disagreed by 29 percent. The president notched a 14-percent net positive ranking for “changing business as usual” and scored a 12-percent net positive ranking for both “being straightforward and direct” and “being effective and getting things done.” Trump also scored an 11-percent net positive ranking on how he is “dealing with the economy.”

“53 percent of those surveyed agree with the statement, “The news media and other elites are exaggerating the problems with the Trump Administration because they are uncomfortable and threatened with the kind of change that Trump represents.”

Although only 44 percent of Americans across the political spectrum approve of Trump’s overall performance as president, compared with the 48 percent who disapprove, the 45th president scored high marks on how he is fulfilling his campaign promises after just one month in office.

“[Trump’s] laid out an agenda with those speeches, with the promises he made. And our job everyday is just to execute on that,” White House chief strategist Steve Bannon said Thursday during a speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference. “And he’s maniacally focused on that.”

In the poll, which was conducted between Feb. 18-22 and surveyed 1,000 voters, respondents also weighed in on Trump’s ongoing feud with the media and their coverage of his administration. Roughly 51 percent of those surveyed think the media have been “too critical” of Trump’s presidency, while 41 percent believe the coverage has been “mostly fair and objective.”

Along those same lines, 53 percent of those surveyed agree with the statement, “The news media and other elites are exaggerating the problems with the Trump Administration because they are uncomfortable and threatened with the kind of change that Trump represents.” Approximately 45 percent disagreed with the statement.

Additionally, 86 percent of the poll’s respondents agreed with the statement, “For too long, a small group in our nation’s capital has reaped the rewards of government while the people have borne the cost.” Only 12 percent disagreed, indicating that a widespread resentment against the political Establishment and the elite remains among Americans.

Even though the mainstream media spent considerable time covering the protesters who are outraged by Trump’s temporary travel ban executive order leveled against citizens from seven terrorism-compromised countries, the poll showed respondents almost evenly split on the notion. While 45 percent said the ban was unnecessary, 44 percent of respondents believe it is a necessary safeguard against terrorism. Approximately 82 percent of Republicans, 11 percent of Democrats, and 43 percent of independents said they believe the policy is necessary,

Although Trump fared well in the poll in several key areas, respondents looked sourly upon Congress. Just 29 percent of Americans approve of Congress and the job it is doing, while 60 percent expressed their disapproval.
