Scaramucci appeared on CNN’s “New Day” in the morning and said Priebus should come forward publicly if he is not behind news leaks that have damaged President Donald Trump.

“Scaramucci had better be a lot more careful than he has been,” Gingrich said on “The Laura Ingraham Show” Thursday. “He obviously likes the limelight. He obviously likes being in the media. I would say right now that he’s being more pugnacious than effective.”

It is important for Scaramucci to “slow down and learn” about his new job — one that the New York financier has no experience doing, Gingrich said.

“Scaramucci’s full of himself,” he said. “I think he got down here from New York. I think he’s all excited. And I think he’s, frankly, talking more than he’s thinking. He needs to slow down and learn the business.”

Gingrich noted that his initial reaction to Scaramucci’s hiring last week was that he would be a good asset. The former speaker said he still believes that but added that civil wars in the West Wing, aired in the open, are counterproductive to the president’s agenda.

“It’s totally unhelpful to have someone going around starting family fights in public,” he said. “If he’s going to be that divisive, I’m not sure he’s going to be useful to the president.”

Speaking of internal fights, Gingrich said he understands the president’s frustration over independent counsel Robert Mueller’s “totally phony” investigation into possible coordination between Trump’s campaign and Russian agents during the 2016 election.

The president has publicly berated his attorney general, Jeff Sessions, for recusing himself and allowing Mueller to be appointed in the first place.

“From that standpoint, it’s very personal and the frustration’s very deep,” Gingrich said. “On the other hand, he hasn’t fired him. I don’t think he’s likely to fire him. And I think Sessions’ attitude is, ‘Look, we have this one deep disagreement. I still support President Trump. I still want to have his administration be very successful.”

Gingrich predicted that the attorney general would soldier on.

“I think you’ll see Sessions just keep moving forward to try to do his job,” he said.

Gingrich said Trump is very much “in the moment” and transparent about his own beliefs and feelings. But he added that this does not always serve him well. He said the president would benefit from more discipline.

“In the case of Sessions, here is his earliest supporter in the Senate, his most loyal supporter in the entire campaign,” he said. “When he was down 10 points, Sessions was still right there. It would be an enormous mistake to fire him, and I think, probably, we’re past that stage.”
