A new ad blasts Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine for three of his most prominent flip-flops the day Kaine takes the debate stage.

As Hillary Clinton’s running mate, Kaine has found himself under scrutiny for his shifts on policy since he joined the Democratic ticket on July 22.

The ad, released Tuesday by America Rising PAC, called  “Switched Your Position,” highlights Kaine’s ideological and political whiplash the day of his vice presidential debate against Indiana Gov. Mike Pence.

“Kaine was willing to compromise his beliefs to achieve his own personal ambition — a trait Hillary Clinton surely saw in herself and admired in Kaine, who proved he’s willing to say or do anything to win an election,” Jeff Bechdel, the communications director for America Rising PAC, wrote in an emailed statement.

The ad focused on what it called Kaine’s “most brazen and politically motivated flip-flops, shifts, and reversals,” most notably on: trade, abortion, and energy.

“As a Southern Democrat, Tim Kaine rose through the ranks openly touting his moderate and centrist positions, running for governor in 2005 as a pro-gun, pro-life Democrat. And then along came Hillary Clinton,” Bechdel wrote.

The ad kicks off by noting Kaine supported the Trans-Pacific Partnership — before claiming he was against it once he joined the Democratic presidential ticket.

During an interview in late July with NBC News, host Chuck Todd called Kaine out for “essentially switching” his position on the 12-nation trade pact.

Perhaps toughest for Kaine, a Catholic, is his inconsistency on the issue of abortion.

“So Team Clinton used campaign manager Robby Mook to publicly force him left by saying Kaine has ‘given assurances’ that he supports Clinton’s desire to repeal the Hyde Amendment, which bans federal funds from being used for abortions,” Bechdel wrote. The ad shows Kaine trying to contest that he had made those assurances.

The ad closes by hitting Kaine for his reversal on offshore drilling.

“With all these acrobatic twists and turns on major policy positions, it’s clear that Clinton has taught Tim Kaine the ways of being a say-or-do-anything candidate,” Bechdel concluded. “In doing so, Kaine has compromised his beliefs and values almost to the point that he is unrecognizable. But what more would you expect from the Clinton World?”

The first and only vice presidential debate between Kaine and Pence will be held Tuesday evening at Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia.
