MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski repeated a claim Monday first made by former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper that U.S. institutions “are under assault” at the hands of President Donald Trump and wondered aloud if America would survive this administration.

Clapper, appearing Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union,” said “the developments of the past week are very bothersome, very disturbing to me” and warned that “our institutions are under assault,” both externally and internally, from Trump.

“I spy with my little eye Nancy Pelosi as the Speaker of the House.”

The “Morning Joe” co-host latched onto that rhetoric in a discussion with New York Times correspondent Michael S. Schmidt Monday about Trump’s abrupt decision to fire FBI Director James Comey.

“I’ll ask you — from the reporting you’ve been doing, can you back up what James Clapper just said?” Brzezinski asked. “A lot of people feel that the way our government is set up, the institutions check and balance each other, and that we’re going to be okay. We’re going to survive Trump.”

Even though Brzezinski is holding on to hope that she might “survive” the Trump administration, she lamented the warning signs that her “instincts” have been telling her.

“My instincts tell me they are under assault. The institutions of our government are under assault because of this president, and he could do some damage — if not put under control or contained in some way,” Brzezinski warned.

Brzezinski’s fearful demeanor toward the Trump administration is nothing new.

Back in March, Brzezinski tearfully told her viewers that everything “is really bad” and the president is pushing a “dangerous agenda.”

“Just for the record, we are all really nervous. So if people out there feel nervous, we do, too. We don’t think this is funny,” Brzezinski said of the Trump administration, adding that, “we are at a low point in American history.”

Earlier in May, both Brzezinski and fellow host Joe Scarborough theorized that Trump might have dementia and has “some issues medically.”

But Brzezinski, optimistic she will survive the Trump years, sees hope for her fellow liberals in the elite media in the 2018 midterm elections.

“I spy with my little eye Nancy Pelosi as the Speaker of the House,” Brzezinski said Monday, predicting huge Democrat victories, “that’s coming up in 2018.”

Scarborough also chimed in as he looked forward to “articles of impeachment” being drawn up against Trump to oust him.

“I’m not being hyperbolic when I say it — if there are articles of impeachment drawn up, the first article of impeachment drawn up against Donald Trump will be the first article of impeachment drawn against Richard Nixon, and that is obstruction of justice,” Scarborough said.
