MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” co-host Mika Brzezinski blasted President Donald Trump’s frequent use of Twitter, saying during a segment Monday that “every time he tweets he is showing a weakness.”

Brzezinski and USA Today senior political consultant Heidi Pryzbyla discussed Trump’s weekend Twitter rant targeting GOP senators for failing once again to garner enough support for any bill seeking to repeal and replace all or parts of Obamacare.

Saying that she didn’t “know anyone” who “sees even a scintilla of a path forward here on health care,” Pryzbala argued that Trump’s repeated application of pressure on Republican senators to fulfill their campaign promise to the American people via Twitter “just shows a basic lack of understanding of what just happened.”

The “Morning Joe” co-host latched onto Pryzbala’s line of thinking in her subsequent discussion with fellow host Joe Scarborough, as she expressed her hope that new White House Chief of Staff John Kelly could “help” cure an “undisciplined” Trump of his tweeting habits.

“So Heidi brings up a point, Joe, about the president showing in his tweets sort of a lack of understanding of what’s going on and how things work,” Brzezinski said. “Couldn’t this new chief of staff help this president if he just stopped him from tweeting? Because every time he tweets, he is showing a weakness.”

Scarborough chimed in on the criticism, saying, “I would go beyond that … Every word the president utters — there has to be a reason behind it because words matter for presidents.”

“I think that maybe I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for Twitter because I get such a fake press, such a dishonest press.”

Scarborough added that Trump must “get rid of the tweets” and stay off social media.

The president’s weekend tweets that irked the “Morning Joe” panel appeared to be the ones indicating his frustration with the GOP senators and his mockery of their repeated failures.

Trump also threatened Saturday that “If a new HealthCare Bill is not approved quickly, BAILOUTS for Insurance Companies and BAILOUTS for Members of Congress will end very soon!” On Monday, he added, “If ObamaCare is hurting people, & it is, why shouldn’t it hurt the insurance companies & why should Congress not be paying what public pays?”

But this isn’t the first time that Trump’s Twitter presence has garnered criticism from members of the media and political elites. All throughout his presidential campaign and during the first six months of his administration, the president fielded disapproval and outrage over his frequent and often bombastic tweets targeting “obstructing” Democrats, GOP senators, the “fake news media,” and more.

Trump engaged in a highly publicized spat with the “Morning Joe” co-hosts back in late June when he tweeted that the show is “poorly rated” and that the two hosts “speak badly of me.” The president also claimed that “low I.Q.” Brzezinski “was bleeding badly from a face-lift” when he saw her at Mar-a-Lago around New Year’s Eve.

“@POTUS, do you want to be remembered for your tweets or your accomplishments?” Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), one of the GOP senators who consistently refused to support her party’s health care reform bills, tweeted in response.

Following the “Morning Joe” spat, a Quinnipiac University poll found that more than 60 percent of registered voters think Trump should cease using his Twitter account altogether. In mid-July, an ABC News-Washington Post poll found that two-thirds of respondents believe Trump’s tweets are either “inappropriate” or “insulting,” while 52 percent said they are “dangerous.”

Twitter co-founder Evan Williams even took it upon himself to apologize for Trump’s use of the social media platform during an interview with The New York Times in late May.

“It’s a very bad thing, Twitter’s role in that,” a guilt-ridden Williams told The Times of Trump’s Election Day victory. “If it’s true that he wouldn’t be president if it weren’t for Twitter, then yeah, I’m sorry.”

“I thought once everybody could speak freely and exchange information and ideas, the world is automatically going to be a better place,” Williams added. “I was wrong about that.”

But Trump repeatedly defended his use of his personal Twitter account, saying that it helps him to get his message out and past the biased filters of the mainstream media.

Following the “Morning Joe” controversy, Trump tweeted, “My use of social media is not Presidential — it’s MODERN DAY PRESIDENTIAL. Make America Great Again!”

“The FAKE MSM is working so hard trying to get me not to use Social Media. They hate that I can get the honest and unfiltered message out,” Trump tweeted in early June. “Sorry folks, but if I would have relied on the Fake News of CNN, NBC, ABC, CBS, washpost or nytimes, I would have had ZERO chance winning WH.”

“I think that maybe I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for Twitter because I get such a fake press, such a dishonest press,” Trump told Fox News host Tucker Carlson in March. “There’s been nobody in history that got more dishonest media than I’ve gotten … Twitter is a wonderful thing for me because I can get the word out.”

“I don’t regret anything, because there is nothing you can do about it. You know if you issue hundreds of tweets, and every once in a while you have a clinker, that’s not so bad,” Trump added. “Without the tweets, I wouldn’t be here.”
