Economic and public policy analyst Steve Moore praised President Donald Trump for doing “more to help the economy” in just one day than former President Obama “did in eight years in office” during an interview Tuesday on “The Laura Ingraham Show.”

Moore, a distinguished visiting fellow of the Project of Economic Growth at The Heritage Foundation, pointed to the executive order Trump signed Monday during his first full business day in office that pulled the U.S. out of the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal. Noting that Trump also took the time to meet with union leaders and workers Monday afternoon following his executive order, Moore said the new president is taking concrete steps to fulfill campaign promises to revitalize the economy and put Americans back to work.

“The Left basically views businesses and employers as enemies. It’s evil if you get rich in this country. That’s the new ethic of the Left.”

“In 24 hours, he did more to help the economy than Obama did in eight years in office,” Moore told LifeZette Editor-in-Chief Laura Ingraham. “So, if this is the way it’s going to be for the next, you know, four years, we’re going to see a very prosperous economy.”

All throughout his campaign, Trump promised to extricate the U.S. from the TPP and renegotiate the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) to put American business interests first. Saying that “it’s about time we got a little tougher with these countries,” Moore said the Trump administration is off to an excellent start.

“One thing I really like about Donald Trump is that he’s a negotiator — he’s an expert negotiator. I mean, his bestselling book is called ‘The Art of the Deal,'” Moore said. “And he is going to get much tougher with China.”

Saying that the U.S. has “a strong card to play against China” regarding trade and business dealings, Moore recommended that Trump continue his steps toward taking a tougher stance with China.

“If [China] can’t keep selling us those crates and crates and crates and crates full of crap … their economy goes into recession,” Moore said. “But China needs us, so we should play that card, and Trump will.”

“When he’s sitting in the negotiating room with the Chinese leaders, he should say, ‘Here are the conditions by which you’re going to continue to sell us stuff. You’re going to stop stealing.’ They steal 200 billion dollars worth of our technologies and our copyrights and our drugs and our vaccines every year,” Moore continued, adding that Trump should also tell China to “open your markets to us just as we’ve opened up our markets to you.”

As for Trump’s meeting with the union leaders and workers, Moore praised the president for “tugging at the patriotic strings of these companies and saying, ‘Look — don’t leave this country. Good things are coming.'”

“The Left basically views businesses and employers as enemies. It’s evil if you get rich in this country. That’s the new ethic of the Left,” Moore said, adding, “I think [Trump] should use the club — the stick — to get these countries to cooperate. But I also think we need to use the carrot of lowering our taxes, lowering our regulations, making America a more competitive place so we can compete with these other countries.”

Above all, Moore lamented the Left’s obstinate desire — led by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer — to thwart the 45th president after losing the 2016 election.

“Chuck Schumer doesn’t care about the country. He doesn’t care about unions. He doesn’t care about workers. He cares about power. The Left wants to take back power,” Moore said.

“That’s all they care about is power, and Donald Trump has taken that away from them. Unfortunately … even when Trump wants to do things that are good for workers and good for unions … the Democrats will still oppose everything,” Moore continued. “Just watch. I mean, hear my words — even when Trump reaches out to the other side on infrastructure and other things, the Democrats will not play ball with him.”
