It’s no secret Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) likes to argue, and likes to try to intimidate his political opponents.

But Melanie Morgan of Media Equalizer said it got so bad in 2000, she threatened to call the police after Franken continued to contact her three days after a joint appearance on Bill Maher’s ABC show at the time, “Politically Incorrect.”

Morgan made the surprise charge Thursday night on Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle,” where she found a receptive host in Laura Ingraham. Ingraham also recalled stints on “Politically Correct” during which she said she tried to stay away from Franken.

“I have had some run-ins with Al Franken over the years,” Ingraham told Morgan. “He is so insignificant to me … There is an underlying nastiness.”

Morgan said her bizarre Franken story ended when she threatened to call the San Francisco police on the third day of contact from Franken, well after the appearance on “Politically Incorrect.”

Morgan said she was not surprised about the alleged sexual abuse Franken inflicted upon Leeann Tweeden, a former model, while they were on a trip to visit U.S. troops in Afghanistan in late 2006. Tweeden, now a radio-show anchor, went public on Thursday, sending shockwaves through the Capitol. The Senate Ethics Committee may investigate Franken’s behavior regarding Tweeden.

“I felt physically intimidated. And then he followed me out of the studio. I thought the story would end there. But it did not.”

But Morgan’s tale is more one of abusive, intimidating behavior, long before Franken was a senator. Back then, Franken was merely a liberal polemicist and a comedian.

“I was one of the panelists, one of the guests,” said Morgan. “I was the token conservative and Al Franken was the liberal … I was involved in just kind of a really mundane argument over policy numbers about, you know, the budget numbers … But, I will tell you what, Al Franken got right in my face and he just kept coming back over the top and I would challenge him about those numbers, and he would come back over the top. Finally, the show was over and … he trailed me, stalked me back, really, to the green room where he got in my face again. Got very aggressive with me. I felt physically intimidated. And then he followed me out of the studio. I thought the story would end there. But it did not.”

Franken got Morgan’s phone number from an ABC official.

“He started calling me at home and harassing me, trying to prove to me how right he was,” Morgan said. “Finally, on the third phone call, I told him if he didn’t back off that I was going to call the police and make a police report about his behavior. I found it so creepy and so disturbing and obsessively weird. And it’s an experience that has informed me about him all these years. I never could understand why the people of Minnesota elected him as a United States senator.”
