Melania Trump said her husband decided to run for the presidency because he was moved by the plight of American citizens who lost their jobs and were “left behind” by the “broken and rigged system” during a rally Saturday in North Carolina.

As she introduced Donald Trump to the crowd gathered at the Wilmington International Airport, Melania presented a very human picture of her husband as she spoke of his plans to “make America great again.” A key component of Trump’s plan to bring economic prosperity back to American shores, Melania said, is his plan to cease the “outflow of jobs” and renegotiate horrible trade deals.

“The theft of American prosperity will end and it will end immediately upon taking office,” Trump said.

“Donald cares so deeply about this country he could no longer sit by and allow American jobs to be lost and Americans to become less and less safe,” Melania said. “Once given the opportunity, Donald will make America great again.”

Noting that over 500 days had passed since her husband first announced his bid for the presidency, Melania assured the people that Trump “has loved going all over this beautiful country talking with the American people, hearing your concerns and sharing his solutions.”

Although the Slovenian-born former model acknowledged that she and her husband came from “very different backgrounds,” Melania told the crowd that as soon as they met it became clear that they shared two key things in common: “we both treasure the freedom and the democracy that America stands for and we both treasure all honest and patriotic Americans like you.”

“This is so much more than a political campaign. It is a movement,” Melania said. “It is a movement for all of those who are left behind by [a] broken and rigged system. It is a movement of those yearning for more – a movement of those working hard for a better tomorrow for themselves, their families and their country. This is a movement which is inspiring and inclusive.”

After Trump himself took the stage, he built upon Melania’s words and presented his vision for a greater and safer country that puts its own citizen’s dreams and needs ahead of foreigners’ interests.

“If a company wants to fire their workers, leave North Carolina, move to another country, and then ship their products back into the United States, we will make them pay a tax of 35 percent,” Trump said. “The outflow of jobs from our country is disgraceful. It’s a disgrace.”

The GOP nominee listed several companies that had closed down their U.S. locations and shipped their jobs out to Mexico, China and elsewhere, thus affecting the lives of hundreds of North Carolinians. Promising to look out for the people’s interests in a way that Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton and the “corrupt” political establishment have never done, Trump asked North Carolinians to make their voices known on Election Day and hold the political class accountable.

“A Trump Administration will stop the jobs from leaving America and we will stop the jobs from leaving North Carolina, that I can tell you,” Trump said. “The theft of American prosperity will end and it will end immediately upon taking office.”
