MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski called Monday for President Donald Trump’s advisers and staff to “be fired today for the sake of America” in the latest escalation of media fury that raged through the first weekend of the new administration.

Trump used his first public appearance during his first full day as president to address the CIA Saturday. He expressed his support for the intelligence community while decrying the “dishonest” media for downplaying the crowds at his inauguration. White House press secretary Sean Spicer expanded on Trump’s comments in his first official briefing Saturday, asserting a historic number of people had watched the 45th president’s inauguration.

“Whoever was encouraging [Trump] and goading him to keep fighting about the size of the crowds that’s in The New York Times report should be fired today for the sake of America.”

“Whoever was encouraging [Trump] and goading him to keep fighting about the size of the crowds that’s in The New York Times report should be fired today for the sake of America,” Scarborough said. “It is showtime.”

Brzezinski chimed in too, claiming that Trump’s presidency is “gonna be a failed presidency” if he does not “weed through” his staff.

“It is showtime. It’s showtime and the show has begun very badly,” Brzezinski said. “Whoever didn’t write or should have written or edited that speech should go today. Out. Goodbye. Done. Whoever did not coordinate the CIA event correctly should go today.”

After just three days on the job for the fledgling administration, the media has brought out the long knives for Trump and his staff.

“To those advisers telling him to restrain, we thank you. For the sake of America, we thank you,”Scarborough said. “For those advisers that were telling him to be combative on his first day, we ask you to leave now for the sake of this country. Because you let down not only the president of the United States — who at the end of the day is responsible for absolutely everything that happens — but you also let down America and our allies across the world. You are a disgrace. Leave the White House right now.”

LifeZette Editor-in-Chief Laura Ingraham blasted Scarborough and Brzezinski for their harsh verdicts Monday on “The Laura Ingraham Show.” Although Ingraham admitted that she “would have written [Trump’s inaugural address] differently” in some ways and that she would have carried out the last few days a bit differently, she called the mainstream media out for their hypocrisy and coverage failures.

“So there’s lots that [Trump] can do. There’s a lot of different ways to message this. But I’m not going to be here today dumping all over the Trump team because Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski want to say everyone should be fired,” Ingraham said. “You know who should be fired? The people who should be fired are the people who came on television day after day after day and missed what was happening across this country. Those people shouldn’t be able to call themselves political strategists and soothsayers on politics.”

“These people have missed the boat on Russia, on the Middle East, on manufacturing, on Obamacare for years. And they want to talk about people who should be fired?” Ingraham continued.

Byron York, the chief political correspondent at the Washington Examiner, told Ingraham that it’s time for the media “to move on” and concern themselves with more important matters than quibbling over inaugural crowd sizes.

“I mean, [Trump’s] become president and he’s got so much to do,” York said. “He’s meeting with business leaders. He’s meeting separately with union leaders. Heavy focus on jobs. He’s withdrawing the U.S. from [Trans-Pacific Partnership]. He is doing other executive orders. He’s meeting with Congress.”

“So you have all this presidential stuff happening. I mean, Monday is like — the official theme of Monday is ‘Let’s move on,'” York said. “And for those people — he’s got critics who are going to [be] complaining about the Spicer stuff for days now — and Trump is just going to completely overwhelm that by doing all this stuff.”

Ingraham agreed, saying that media analysts have a much easier job than Trump and the staff in his administration.

“I think you can always say ‘I would have done it differently’ … But it’s easier in many ways to do what I do every day,” Ingraham said. “We get up and you can opine about what should have been said or done. But then you’re in the crucible and things are flying around you. It’s a different deal. I think [the Trump team] learned a lot probably from the last 48 hours.”
