Far-left news website Vox published a video on Friday titled “Why white supremacists love Tucker Carlson” — it is an absolute master class in intellectual dishonesty and media manipulation, according to several conservative influencers.

“This is stupid even for Vox, and that’s saying something,” said Dan Gainor, vice president of business and culture at the Media Research Center. “The argument is poorly done, and, while it complains about demagogues, it’s outright demagoguery. It attempts to blame Tucker Carlson because a few bigots like him.”

The video appears designed to give viewers the impression Tucker Carlson is associated with white supremacists, or at least shares viewpoints in any way linked to white supremacy.

This becomes quickly clear once the Vox narrator starts explaining that the reason white supremacists supposedly love Carlson so much “is the way that Tucker talks about immigration.”

Unlike other Fox News hosts, the narrator claims, “Tucker is different … Tucker spent the first few months of his show depicting both legal and illegal immigrants as potential criminals.”

The Vox narrator complains that Carlson “goes after Latinos, he goes after Muslims, and he goes after refugees.”

Vox decided to splice in clips from Carlson’s actual show while the narrator of the video was speaking, revealing what the far-left creators of the video describe as assaults on these groups.

The video shows Carlson reporting the factual and shockingly large number of Mexican citizens who are incarcerated in U.S. prisons. In the case of Muslims, it shows Carlson reporting on the threats of Islamic radicalism and terror. And in the case of “refugees,” it depicts the Fox host reporting about the rise in certain types of crime that have accompanied massive number of Muslim migrants in Europe.

The only of Carlson’s claims Vox attempts to disprove is about immigrants and crime.

The narrator claims that immigrants, illegal or otherwise, commit crimes at a lower rate than native-born Americans. But to back up the assertion the video shows a graph illustrating the share of the prison population — a manifestly different statistic.

Aside from the obviously dishonest tactic of discussing a “rate” while showing a graph depicting the “share,” the underlying argument is also bogus, according to a conservative scholar.

“Illegal aliens represent 12 percent of murder sentences, 20 percent of kidnapping sentences, and 16 percent of drug-trafficking sentences, yet they are less than 4 percent of the population.”

Liberal activists like to repeat the claim that immigrants commit crimes at a lower rate than native-born Americans, but as Heritage Foundation legal expert Hans Von Spakovsky explained in an article in The Hill in April, the studies that support this claim are based on faulty statistics.

“Instead of using official crime data, these reports also use surveys,” he explained. “The Sentencing Project measures ‘crime and related behavior based on self-reported accounts of behavior,’ and Cato uses the United States Census American Community Survey (ACS). For obvious reasons, there is little incentive for anyone, let alone criminal aliens, to self-report their crimes. Many respondents will likely also fail to disclose that they are not a citizen out of fear of discovery and deportation.”

An advocate for the enforcement of immigration law noted Carlson is merely providing viewers with facts and a viewpoint that is so mainstream that then-President Bill Clinton essentially endorsed it in 1995.

“It’s important to note that the positions taken by Tucker Carlson — that mass immigration should be reduced and that illegal immigration should be strictly controlled — are exactly the same conclusions reached by the bipartisan Jordan Commission and endorsed by President Bill Clinton,” said Dave Ray, communications director of the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR). “The vast majority of the American public still believes in those ideals, leaving mass-immigration liberals feeling frustrated and marginalized.”

On the issue of the rate of crimes committed by immigrants versus native-born Americans, Ray suggests the statistics support Carlson and undermine the Vox argument.

“It’s the tactic of killing the messenger to stop the message. Name-calling and outright slander are the tools of their trade, and they wield them liberally.”

He said: “In terms of immigration and crime, it’s a mixed bag, because much of the data lumps together legal with illegal immigrants. For example, we know that roughly 25 to 30 percent of the federal prison population is [composed] of immigrants, while they account for less than 13 percent of the total U.S. population, so that’s significantly higher than native-born, but again, that’s a mix of both legal and illegal immigrants.”

While “newer immigrants have a lower crime rate than the general population, possibly because they can be deported for breaking the law,” Ray conceded, “illegal immigrants have a much higher crime rate (not counting their immigration violation) than the general population.”

“The illegal alien population of 11.7 million represents roughly 3.6 percent of the U.S. population, yet illegal immigrants disproportionately comprise 13.6 percent of all offenders sentenced in the U.S. following a federal criminal conviction, excluding their immigration violation,” he said.

“According to the U.S. Sentencing Commission,” Ray said, “several categories of crime reveal eye-popping statistics: Illegal aliens represent 12 percent of murder sentences, 20 percent of kidnapping sentences, and 16 percent of drug-trafficking sentences, yet they are less than 4 percent of the population.” (go to page 2 to continue reading)[lz_pagination]
