Ivanka Trump got off to a rocky start at her first major appearance on the international stage Tuesday.

The first daughter was booed and hissed at the Women20 Summit in Berlin after touting President Donald Trump’s support for families.

“[T]he thousands of women who have worked with and for my father for decades … are a testament to his belief and solid conviction in the potential of women.”

“I’m very proud of my father’s advocacy … He’s been a tremendous champion of supporting families and enabling them to thrive,” said Ivanka Trump, who was seated near Christine Lagarde, managing director of the IMF, and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

The comments elicited audible boos and hisses from the crowd, which encouraged the moderator to press the issue.

“You hear the reaction from the audience, so I need you to address one more point,” the moderator said. “Some attitudes toward women your father has publicly displayed in former times might leave one questioning whether he’s such an empowerer for women,” the moderator noted.

Trump panned the narrative as a media-generated falsehood.

“I certainly heard the criticism from the media, and that’s been perpetuated,” she added.

“But I know from personal experience and I think the thousands of women who have worked with and for my father for decades when he was in the private sector are a testament to his belief and solid conviction in the potential of women and their ability to do the job as well as any man.”

The first daughter, as a representative of her father’s administration, has received mixed reactions from European public officials.

When Ivanka was present at a March meeting with Merkel in New York, several European leaders panned what they suggested was nepotism.

“The key relation btw #Germany & #USA is a serious matter. It shall not be family business. I disagree with #Ivanka #Trump presence,” tweeted Siegfried Muresan, a Romanian member of the European Parliament and, at the time, spokesman for the European People’s Party, a center-right grouping within the European Parliament.
