LifeZette Editor-in-Chief Laura Ingraham said, “It was about time the Justice Department recommended” former FBI Director James Comey’s removal after he “turned himself into a pretzel” by entering partisan battles, during an interview Tuesday on Fox News’ “Hannity.”

President Donald Trump shocked the country Tuesday evening when the White House announced Comey’s firing, after Trump agreed with the DOJ that Comey was “not able to effectively lead the bureau” going forward.

“It seemed like during the campaign … Jim Comey turned himself into a pretzel… and I guess tonight he’s extremely nauseous.”

“I think [Comey] really damaged his own reputation. He came in as kind of a straight shooter. But by the end, nobody trusted him,” Ingraham said. “So in the end, it was about time that Justice Department recommended his removal.”

Ingraham noted that many Americans expected Trump to remove Comey shortly after his inauguration.

“He also did the non-indictment indictment of Hillary Clinton with the handling of the classified information, the private server,” Ingraham said. “That was that bizarre press conference he did where he seemed to kind of conflict her or charge her only to say, ‘No, we couldn’t find the requisite intent that many say is really required under that statute.'”

Prior to the election, Ingraham said that “no one had confidence in Comey” and the Democrats reviled him after he sent the letter to Congress 11 days before the election, informing the members that the FBI had reopened its investigation into Clinton’s private email server after the bureau discovered that Clinton aide Human Abedin had forwarded emails to her disgraced husband, Anthony Weiner. But just a few days later, Comey revealed that the emails turned out to be non-problematic.

Furthermore, when Comey appeared before Congress to testify on May 4, he made two glaringly false statements.

“During his testimony this week, he also got two key facts wrong, which the Justice Department had to come back and correct after the testimony, both about the number of emails that were sent to Anthony Weiner’s computer and how Huma Abedin actually transmitted them,” Ingraham noted.

“So, those were two key facts that — at this point, with how important this investigation was right before the election — he gets those two major facts wrong,” Ingraham added. “That’s just not someone who’s on his game.”

Fox News host Sean Hannity also noted that Comey seemed astonishingly uninterested in investigating “the one crime we know” actually happened: the unmasking and leaking that contributed to former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn’s downfall.

“The FBI hasn’t even questioned [former acting Attorney General Sally] Yates about the one known crime in this case,” Hannity said. “How is that even possible?”

Ingraham agreed, saying, “You have a crime that was committed, and the FBI director seems woefully uninterested, incurious about finding out what really went on.”

“So again, the Left was not happy with him, the Right was not happy with him, and I think most people just think his investigation — if you look at this fairly, and the Russian collusion — there was nothing there,” Ingraham added. “He found nothing there, but he did manage to put a lot of doubt in a lot of people’s minds about the outcome of this election.”

Hannity said that media have been running with “this conspiracy theory” about Trump-Russian collusion even though both Comey and former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper have testified there is no clear evidence of any collusion.

“It seemed like during the campaign … Jim Comey turned himself into a pretzel not to raise any possible criminal wrongdoing by the administration, by Hillary Clinton,” Ingraham said. “He used odd phrases like, ‘it made me mildly nauseous to think that I could — this investigation could have affected the outcome of the election, that Russia could have affected the outcome of the election.’ And I guess tonight he’s extremely nauseous.”
