Donald J. Trump didn’t just win the presidency — he demonstrated that the political leadership of this country completely failed the people. And he led the people to reject the old liberal dinosaurs once and for all.

Now, for the first time in decades, we will have a president who faces real pressure to deliver results for the American people.

They’ve known, for years, that their policies were bad for the average American. They’ve known, for years, that many Americans were enraged at their repeated failures. They’ve known, for years, that they were paving the way for China to become the dominant power in the world. But they refused to do anything about it.

In fact, they refused even to make any significant changes in direction. Their plan was to raise enormous sums of money, and use that money — and their control over the media — to destroy anyone who got in their way.

Their other plan was to whip up racial divisions in order to turn working-class voters against each other. It is a complete and utter failure of leadership — and it deserved to be punished.

Now, for the first time in decades, we will have a president who faces real pressure to deliver results for the American people. That should have been the case all along.

That pressure to deliver will not just be for certain core constituencies, but for all Americans. During the campaign, Trump was forced to spend most of his time campaigning in swing states. But Trump is from New York City, and he should be able to reach Americans in major metropolitan areas.

During the transition, he should go to the big cities in Blue America — especially New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco — and he should make clear that he is going to be president for everyone. Trump should make very clear that his policies are designed to help all Americans, and that he will not stop until he has ended the distinction between the red states and the blue states.
