On the same day determined Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) opponent Sen. Bernie Sanders endorsed Hillary Clinton for president, a high-ranking campaign aide to the former secretary of state scoffed at the notion that the controversial 12-nation pact wouldn’t go through.

Clinton’s top adviser on Asian policymaking assured an Australian newspaper Tuesday that Congress would approve the 12-nation trade pact by the end of the year, despite the fact Clinton has flip-flopped to oppose the TPP.

“Just as her email scandal proves, Mrs. Clinton says one thing to the American people, but another to her globalist friends.”

Kurt Campbell, former assistant secretary of state for East Asia, told The Australian newspaper that the TPP is “necessary for American leadership” in Asia and suggested Clinton’s current opposition is pre-election posturing.

“Every trade agreement goes through the deepest, darkest tunnel before it is ultimately passed,” Campbell reportedly said.

In a statement released by presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump’s campaign, Sen. Jeff Sessions, the leading Republican opponent of the TPP in Congress, blasted Clinton’s insincerity.

“The worst kept secret in Washington is that if Hillary Clinton is elected president, the Trans-Pacific Partnership will become law,” Sessions said in the statement. “This statement by her senior adviser only confirms these fears. After voicing her support for the 5,554-page agreement 45 times before she began running for president, and refusing to take a position for the first months of her campaign, Mrs. Clinton’s senior adviser is now overseas touting the benefits of the TPP.”

Sessions compared Clinton’s public comments on the TPP to her statements — later proved false — regarding her use of email during her tenure as secretary of state.

“Just as her email scandal proves, Mrs. Clinton says one thing to the American people, but another to her globalist friends,” Sessions stated. “The TPP creates an all-country Pacific union whereby each country gets a single vote. This will allow the union to legislate against the will of the American people. Such a global commission will be very difficult to contain.”

The TPP ballyhooing from Clinton’s adviser made for awkward timing for Sanders, who finally offered Clinton his blessing as the Democrats finalized their platform Tuesday, rejecting language opposing TPP.

Sanders has consistently lampooned the TPP, calling the trade deal “disastrous” and a threat to “our democracy,” in a July 4 Philadelphia Inquirer op-ed.

In the days after Clinton secured the delegates needed to clinch the nomination, Sanders allies waged a concerted effort to lock language opposing the deal into the new Democratic platform.

Sanders reiterated just how important it was to him that the Democratic Party’s official platform contained language condemning the TPP — which he said “would undermine the democratic values that our country was founded on.”

“In my view, the Democratic Party must go on record in opposition to holding a vote on this disastrous, unfettered free-trade agreement during the lame-duck session of Congress and beyond,” Sanders said in his op-ed. “If both Clinton and I agree that the TPP should not get to the floor of Congress this year, it’s hard to understand why an amendment saying so would not be overwhelmingly passed.”

But now Sanders has given Clinton his endorsement without securing language in the Democratic platform opposing TPP — and with Clinton allies bragging the trade bargain will become law.

“Bernie Sanders has abandoned his supporters by endorsing pro-war, pro-TPP, pro-Wall Street Crooked Hillary Clinton,” presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump tweeted on Tuesday. “I am somewhat surprised that Bernie Sanders was not true to himself and his supporters. They are not happy that he is selling out!”

The fruitless end of Sanders campaign on that front will continue to weigh heavy on the minds of his recent supporters.

“Bernie endorsed Hillary and people are crying and leaving the rally,” tweeted one person at the event where Sanders endorsed Clinton.

“How can Bernie rant against corporate America, money in politics, and the rest, and then endorse Hillary? Fraud,” tweeted another.

“Democrats promising larger govt with crooked Hillary to control & enslave everyone. Bernie’s sold out his followers. Hollow promises,” tweeted another person.

The Sanders TPP betrayal will give Donald Trump more arrows in his populist quiver — Republicans have not yet approved a final platform but early reports indicate there will be language opposing the Trans-Pacific Partnership.
