Sebastian Gorka, former deputy assistant to President Donald Trump, said Wednesday that the Left has caused the United States to commit “political and cultural suicide” through its push over the past eight years for open borders.

Gorka, who wrote “Defeating Jihad: The Winnable War” in 2016, was a guest on “The Laura Ingraham Show” on Wednesday morning, the day after the terrorist attack in New York City that left eight dead and 12 others wounded. The attacker, Sayfullo Saipov, immigrated to the U.S. from Uzbekistan seven years ago under the Diversity Immigrant Visa Program.

“That’s defeatism. That’s Europe. That’s the political and cultural suicide that the Left would have us commit and tried to convince us it’s the only way for the last eight years,” Gorka said. “The fact is that we will crush this enemy just as we crushed the Nazis, just as we defeated the Soviet Union. This is a new form of totalitarianism — this time a religiously fueled one.”

Gorka, who exited the White House in August 2017, said that now is the time “to make sure that we don’t become what we see in Europe” as a result of open borders and a haphazard vetting process. If the U.S. follows the European model, he argued, it will become “a nation that is plagued by the types of attacks again and again and again.”

“And that’s why the immigration stop is so important, and that’s why the president wants to kill this absurd lottery for green cards in which anybody who has a high school degree and two years of work experience can roll the dice and come to America and live here,” Gorka said. “It’s insanity.”

Under former President Barack Obama, Gorka said that the Left attempted “to have us believe that living in American is a human right,” and that nearly any attempt to infringe upon that supposed right inherently was anti-American. Gorka pointed to excerpts of a speech by 2016 Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, reportedly delivered before Latin American bankers, that was leaked by WikiLeaks in October of 2016.

During the course of the speech, Clinton said: “My dream is a hemispheric common market, with open trade and open borders, some time in the future with energy that is as green and sustainable as we can get it, powering growth and opportunity for every person in the hemisphere.”

Such a vision, Gorka noted, meant a borderless Western Hemisphere from the bottom of Chile all the way up to Canada.

“At that point, America as a concept ceases to exist,” he said. “So what the president has done is reassert … that being an American is a privilege, not a right.”

Noting that the president of the United States has the constitutional authority to decide “by which standards you can apply to come to America and become a resident or a citizen,” Gorka said the Trump administration must “push back on the cultural distortions that have been foisted upon us” by the Left.

“We have to reinsert common sense into the function of national security. It’s not about making other countries happy,” Gorka said. “But with Donald Trump in the Oval Office, political correctness has been given its marching orders.”
