A murder that occurred in Germany in May 2016 has authorities pointing a finger at Islamic terrorism more than eight months later.

Prosecutors in Germany are now saying the May 19 murder of a female pensioner by a 27-year old Pakistani asylum seeker was motivated by a desire “to kill someone who in his view was a disbeliever, as well as to steal cash and valuables,” German news website Focus.de reported Wednesday.

The Muslim migrant, who is being held by law enforcement, broke into the old woman’s house in Bad Friedrichshall-Untergriesheim and strangled her in her sleep. He then proceeded to write Arabic phrases around the house, which according to authorities were mostly of a religious nature.

The alleged perpetrator, who also took valuables from his victim — including a phone, jewelry, and cash — is reportedly denying his guilt in the case.
