If Tuesday is the last stand for Sen. Marco Rubio and Gov. John Kasich, it is time for the Republican Party to close ranks around front-runner Donald Trump, according to author and commentator Roger L. Simon.

The former CEO of PJ Media and a onetime Rubio backer, Simon said on “The Laura Ingraham Show” that the young senator is a fine speaker, but he committed a fatal flaw by teaming up with Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., on the Gang of Eight immigration push. He said he watched Rubio’s last rally in Palm Beach.

“It was kind of sad,” he said. “It was like a sayonara … I was seduced. And I think a lot of people were seduced. I think he was seduced, actually. I think that’s his tragic flaw.”

Simon said he hopes Trump wins the Ohio primary. A victory there combined with an expected win in Florida would make him two-for-two in Tuesday’s winner-take-all states and should hasten the unification of the party, Simon said.

“His nomination is done if he wins Ohio,” he said. “He’s nominated if he wins Ohio.”

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee told Ingraham that if Rubio and Kasich get out, it won’t do much for Cruz.

“Losses by Rubio and Kasich almost certainly would knock them out of the race, leaving only Trump and Sen. Ted Cruz. But despite Cruz’s anti-Establishment posture, he cannot compete with Trump for the fed-up-with-Washington vote,” he said.
